The burden of ischemic heart disease and the epidemiologic transition in the Eastern Mediterranean Region: 1990 –2019
This study aims to provide a comprehensive description of the trends in the burden of ischemic heart disease (IHD) across the countries of the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR) from 1990 to 2019. Data on IHD prevalence, disability-adjusted life years (DALYs), mortality, DALYs attributable to risk factors, healthcare access and quality index (HAQ), and universal health coverage (UHC) were extracted from the Global Burden of Disease (GB D) database for EMR countries. The data were stratified based on the social demographic index (SDI). Information on cardiac rehabilitation was obtained from publications by the International...

Variations in the Behaviour, Survival, Haematology, and Biochemistry of Ctenopharyngodon idella (Grass Carp) After Exposure to Commercial Grade Atrazine
Bull Environ Contam Toxicol. 2023 Jul 14;111(1):14. doi: 10.1007/s00128-023-03769-7.ABSTRACTThe current study assessed the harmful effects of Atrazine (ATZ) herbicide on haematology and biochemistry of the freshwater fish Ctenopharyngodon idella, a commercially significant fish in Pakistan. C. idella (13 ± 8.4 cm; 132 ± 5.6 g) was exposed to graded levels of ATZ, and its 96-hour LC50 value at 25°C was calculated to be 150.5 µl/L. After exposure to ATZ, fish displayed rapid movements, a loss of balance in position and equilibrium, anxious swimming patterns, colour changes, and increased mucous production. The MCHC, MCH,...

The lipid-lowering efficacy of rosuvastatin is associated with variations in SLCO1B1: a 12-month prospective cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: Differential lipid-lowering response and muscular symptoms due to rosuvastatin are associated with the SLCO1B1 common polymorphisms. Further studies are needed to validate dose adjustment and rationalization.PMID:37259755 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202305_32483

Generalizability of the REDUCE-IT trial to South Asians with cardiovascular disease
CONCLUSIONS: A large proportion of high-intensity, statin-treated, high-risk patients with ASCVD and of self-reported SA ethnicity are eligible for IPE. These data have important translational implications for SAs who are at a disproportionately higher risk of CV morbidity and mortality.FUNDING: This study was funded by an unrestricted grant provided by HLS Therapeutics Inc, Canada.PMID:36630964 | DOI:10.1016/j.medj.2022.12.008

Chemical and Sensory Evaluation of Balady Bread Supplemented with Watermelon Rinds Flour and its Anti-Hyperlipidemic Effect in Male Albina Rats
Conclusion:</b> The research recommended that the 15% replacement of WRF gave good quality properties and lead to reducing body weight and serum lipid profile of hyperlipidemic rats.PMID:36591930 | DOI:10.3923/pjbs.2022.993.1000
