Impact of age on characteristics, performance measures and outcomes of inpatients for heart failure in Beijing, China
ConclusionsHF patients aged ≥75 years had distinct clinical profiles, received worse in-hospital therapies and experienced higher in-hospital and 1 year mortality.

Statins influence the relationship between ATP-binding cassette A1 membrane transporter-mediated cholesterol efflux capacity and coronary atherosclerosis in rheumatoid arthritis
CONCLUSION: In patients with RA, higher ABCA1-CEC may reflect a proatherogenic state, associated with enhanced cardiovascular risk. Statin use may unmask the protective impact of ABCA1-mediated cholesterol efflux on plaque formation, progression and cardiovascular risk.PMID:37484708 | PMC:PMC10362327 | DOI:10.1016/j.jtauto.2023.100206

Association between remnant cholesterol and subclinical carotid atherosclerosis among Chinese general population in health examination
CONCLUSION: Elevated serum RC levels were significantly associated with CAS and increased CIMT among Chinese general population, independent of LDL-C and HDL-C. RC evaluation could be applied for the risk management of early stage of subclinical carotid atherosclerosis in health examination.PMID:37392486 | DOI:10.1016/j.jstrokecerebrovasdis.2023.107234

Association and mediating mechanism between remnant cholesterol and first-ever stroke among the Chinese general population
CONCLUSION: High RC increased the risk of first-ever stroke in the Chinese general population without previous stroke and myocardial infarction, partially through the pathway of hypertension. RC might be a potential target for the primary prevention of stroke.PMID:37304024 | PMC:PMC10247974 | DOI:10.3389/fnins.2023.1161367

Development and validation of explainable machine-learning models for carotid atherosclerosis early screening
CONCLUSIONS: The ML models developed could provide good performance for CAS identification using routine health check-up indicators and could hopefully be applied in scenarios without ethnic and geographic heterogeneity for CAS prevention.PMID:37246225 | DOI:10.1186/s12967-023-04093-8

The efficacy and safety of Chinese herbal medicine as an add-on therapy for type 2 diabetes mellitus patients with carotid atherosclerosis: An updated meta-analysis of 27 randomized controlled trials
Conclusion: Based on this meta-analysis, we found that in the treatment of T2DM patients with CAS, combined with CHM may have more advantages than WM alone, which can further reduce CIMT and carotid plaque Crouse score, regulate glucose and lipid metabolism, improve insulin resistance and enhance islet β-cell function. Meanwhile, CHM is relatively safe. However, limited by the quality and heterogeneity of included studies, the efficacy and safety of CHM remain uncertain. More high-quality studies are still needed to provide more reliable evidence for the clinical application of CHM. Systematic Review Registration: https:/...

ATP-binding cassette G1 membrane transporter-mediated cholesterol efflux capacity influences coronary atherosclerosis and cardiovascular risk in Rheumatoid Arthritis
CONCLUSION: ABCG1-CEC inversely associated with plaque burden and vulnerability, and plaque progression conditionally on cumulative inflammation and corticosteroid dose. ABCG1-CEC inversely associated with events specifically in patients with noncalcified plaques, lower inflammation and in prednisone users.PMID:36996698 | DOI:10.1016/j.jaut.2023.103029

Clinical Characteristics and Outcomes of Chinese Patients with Premature Acute Coronary Syndrome
This study aimed to investigate the clinical characteristics and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) of Chinese patients with premature acute coronary syndrome (ACS) undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). This study was a secondary retrospective analysis involving 2114 ACS patients undergoing PCI at a single center in China. The patients were divided into two groups according to age (premature ACS group: ≤ 55 years in men, ≤ 65 years in women; nonpremature ACS group: > 55 years in men, > 65 years in women). The primary endpoint was all-cause death, and the secondary endpoint was a composite ...
