Transcatheter Reshaping of the Mitral Annulus in Patients with Functional Mitral Regurgitation: One-year Outcomes of the MAVERIC Trial.
CONCLUSION: The ARTO™ transcatheter mitral valve repair system is both safe and effective in decreasing FMR up to one-year post-procedure. PMID: 32718911 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The fate of active left ‐side infective endocarditis with operative indication in absence of valve surgery
ConclusionThe mortality of this cohort of patients is extremely high. A multidisciplinary evaluation is of paramount importance in the decision ‐making process with shared responsibility for denial of operative options. In a perspective of correct healthcare resources allocation an early palliative care consult may need to be considered in some of those patients.

Long ‐term risk of heart failure and mortality following mitral valve surgery in patients with and without right ventricular pacemaker
ConclusionsPostoperative implantation of a permanent RV pacemaker does not alter the long ‐term risks of HF and mortality following mitral valve surgery.

Iron deficiency does not impair the outcome after elective coronary artery bypass and aortic valve procedures
ConclusionsThe majority of patients undergoing elective CABG or SAVR suffer from ID;  however, we found no significant differences in regard to MACCE and postoperative morbidity between ID and non‐ID patients.

Aortic Annular Enlargement in the Elderly: Short and Long-Term Outcomes in the United States.
CONCLUSIONS: These data suggest annular enlargement during SAVR is associated with increased short-term risk in a Medicare population. Survival curves crossed after three years, which may portend a benefit in select patients. However, annular enlargement is still only done in the minority of patients who are at risk for PPM. General Anesthesia Increased the Risk of Atrial Fibrillation and Acute Kidney Injury in Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement
CONCLUSION: GA was associated with higher rates of ICU admission, postoperative AKI, and new-onset AF. The results may provide new evidence that CS challenges universal GA.PMID:33635259 | DOI:10.1532/hsf.3361

Early Discharge After Minimally Invasive Aortic and Mitral Valve Surgery
CONCLUSIONS: In well-selected patients, early discharge after minimally invasive valve surgery was associated with lower costs but comparable postoperative outcomes. About one fifth of patients who remain in the hospital beyond postoperative day 3 may be candidates for earlier discharge.PMID:34419437 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2021.07.047

Commentary: Short-term pain, long-term gain with left ventricular function after mitral valve repair
Mitral regurgitation is a common disorder with serious consequences for patient morbidity, including arrhythmias, heart failure, and stroke, as well as mortality.1 For acceptable-risk patients with severe, symptomatic disease or evidence of left ventricular (LV) dysfunction, surgical repair at a center of excellence is widely accepted as the gold standard therapy2; however, no formal recommendations for optimal repair strategies exist, likely due to the multiple and complex phenotyping of primary mitral valve disease.

Early outcomes of transcatheter mitral valve replacement with the Tendyne system in severe mitral annular calcification
CONCLUSIONS: In patients with MR and severe MAC, TMVR with the Tendyne valve was associated with encouraging acute outcomes, midterm durability, and clinical improvement. Dedicated TMVR therapy may have a future role in these anatomically challenging, high-risk patients.PMID:34918624 | DOI:10.4244/EIJ-D-21-00745
