Older adults with higher blood pressure variability exhibit cerebrovascular reactivity deficits
CONCLUSIONS: Findings add to prior work linking blood pressure variability and cerebrovascular disease burden and suggest blood pressure variability may also be related to prodromal markers of cerebrovascular dysfunction and disease, with potential therapeutic implications.PMID:36149821 | DOI:10.1093/ajh/hpac108

There is urgent need to treat atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease risk earlier, more intensively, and with greater precision: A review of current practice and recommendations for improved effectiveness
Am J Prev Cardiol. 2022 Aug 6;12:100371. doi: 10.1016/j.ajpc.2022.100371. eCollection 2022 Dec.ABSTRACTAtherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) is epidemic throughout the world and is etiologic for such acute cardiovascular events as myocardial infarction, ischemic stroke, unstable angina, and death. ASCVD also impacts risk for dementia, chronic kidney disease peripheral arterial disease and mobility, impaired sexual response, and a host of other visceral impairments that adversely impact the quality and rate of progression of aging. The relationship between low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and risk for AS...

Preventing post-stroke dementia. The MARCH Trial. Protocol and statistical analysis plan of a randomized clinical trial testing the safety and efficacy of Maraviroc in post-stroke cognitive impairment
CONCLUSIONS: The results of this work could lead to a novel, readily available, therapeutic avenue to reduce PSCI, and possibly other pathologies. This study will test safety and effectiveness of Maraviroc in limiting cognitive deterioration and/or post stroke cognitive impairment in patients with cerebral small vessel disease.SCHEDULE: First-patient first-visit was May 2021. Recruitment to complete in 2023, follow-up to complete in 2024.PMID:36082248 | PMC:PMC9446318 | DOI:10.1177/23969873221098857

Incidence and predictors of intracranial bleeding after coronary artery bypass graft surgery
CONCLUSIONS: In an unselected nationwide population undergoing CABG, the incidence of ICB was non-negligible and showed a relatively high incidence rate during the early postoperative period. Post-CABG ICB was associated with a high risk of premature death. Further research is needed to stratify high-risk patients and personalize therapeutic decisions for preventing ICB after CABG.PMID:36035927 | PMC:PMC9411799 | DOI:10.3389/fcvm.2022.863590

Risk of Dementia Associated With Atrial Cardiopathy: The ARIC Study
Conclusions Atrial cardiopathy was significantly associated with an increased risk of dementia, with only a small percent mediation of the effect by AF or stroke.PMID:35946474 | DOI:10.1161/JAHA.121.025646

Joint Genetic Inhibition of PCSK9 and CETP and the Association With Coronary Artery Disease: A Factorial Mendelian Randomization Study
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: Our results suggest that joint inhibition of CETP and PCSK9 has additive effects on lipid traits and disease risk, including a lower risk of CAD. Further research may explore whether a combination of CETP- and PCSK9-related therapeutics can benefit high-risk patients who are unable to reach treatment targets with existing options.PMID:35921096 | DOI:10.1001/jamacardio.2022.2333

Early statin use and cardiovascular outcomes after myocardial infarction: A population-based case-control study
CONCLUSIONS: Lack of statin therapy early after MI is associated with adverse outcomes across the spectrum of MI patients. Results underline the importance of timely statin use after MI.PMID:35803064 | DOI:10.1016/j.atherosclerosis.2022.06.1019

Optimal Rhythm Control Strategy in Patients With Atrial Fibrillation
Korean Circ J. 2022 Jul;52(7):496-512. doi: 10.4070/kcj.2022.0078.ABSTRACTFor almost 20 years, data regarding the effect of rhythm control therapy for atrial fibrillation (AF) on cardiovascular prognosis in comparison with rate control therapy has not been conclusive. The safety of rhythm control and anticoagulation therapy has generally improved. Recently, it was revealed that a rhythm-control strategy reduced the risk of adverse cardiovascular events than usual rate control in patients with recent AF (diagnosed within 1 year). Within 1 year after the AF diagnosis, early initiation of rhythm control led to more favorable ...
