Impact of anemia on long-term outcomes in patients treated with first and second-generation drug-eluting stents Katowice-Zabrze Registry.
CONCLUSIONS: In patients with anemia is significant higher risk of death in the 12-month follow-up, while anemia has no impact on the incidence of MI, repeat revascularization, and stroke. There is no advantage DES II over DES I generation in terms of MACCE and TVR in patients with anemia. PMID: 26575311 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Transcatheter or Surgical Aortic Valve Replacement in Patients With Prior Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting.
CONCLUSIONS: For patients with prior coronary artery bypass graft surgery and aortic stenosis, TAVR offers a significant morbidity advantage and a strong trend toward improved survival over SAVR at 1 year. PMID: 26433523 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Prophylactic Subclavian Artery Intraaortic Balloon Counter-Pulsation is Safe in High-Risk Cardiac Surgery Patients
The objective of this study was to determine the safety of prophylactic subclavian artery intraaortic balloon pumps (SCA-IABP) in high-risk cardiac surgery patients as a bridge to recovery (BTR). From November 2011 to January 2013, 11 consecutive patients at three institutions underwent prophylactic insertion of a SCA-IABP as a BTR. All patients (n = 11) had preoperative ejection fractions of 30% or less. Patients concurrently underwent one or a combination of the following procedures: coronary artery bypass grafting, mitral valve surgery, aortic valve replacement, left ventricular aneurysm resection, and ventricular/atria...

Impact of prasugrel pretreatment and timing of coronary artery bypass grafting on clinical outcomes of patients with non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction: from the ACCOAST study
Conclusions In ACCOAST, early (<2.98 days) surgical revascularization carried increased risk of bleeding and ischemic complications without affecting all-cause mortality through 30 days. Baseline troponin and prasugrel pretreatment did not impact ischemic clinical outcomes.

Impact of Ultrafiltration on Kidney Injury After Cardiac Surgery: The Michigan Experience.
CONCLUSIONS: Patients exposed to CUF had a higher adjusted risk of AKI. Clinical teams should consider lower volumes of CUF among patients with low creatinine clearance to minimize the risk of AKI. PMID: 26209495 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Immediate coronary artery bypass graft surgery for acute coronary syndrome – Outcomes and trends over the past eight years
Conclusions The analysis of our patient file shows a decreasing trend in the number of patients undergoing emergency surgery due to ACS in our centre in the course of the last eight years. Between 2010 and 2013, the proportional representation of patients undergoing surgery due to UA decreased, while the percentage of patients undergoing surgery due to AMI and CS increased. Within the population of patients with ACS, we were also able to determine an increased frequency of some risk factors and increased thirty-day mortality among patients undergoing surgery.

Ticagrelor versus clopidogrel in Asian patients with acute coronary syndrome: A retrospective analysis from the Platelet Inhibition and Patient Outcomes (PLATO) Trial
Conclusions We observed consistency of effects in Asian patients receiving ticagrelor and clopidogrel in the PLATO study. The relatively modest number of Asian patients in this analysis supports further investigation of larger cohorts to confirm our observations.

Ticagrelor: A Review of Its Use in Adults with Acute Coronary Syndromes
Abstract Ticagrelor (Brilique™, Brilinta®), a cyclopentyl-triazolopyrimidine, is an orally active, reversible, and selective adenosine diphosphate (ADP) receptor antagonist indicated for use in patients with acute coronary syndromes (ACS). Ticagrelor has a faster onset of action and provides greater inhibition of platelet aggregation than clopidogrel. In the large well-designed, PLATO study in adult patients with ACS, 12 months’ treatment with ticagrelor was more effective than clopidogrel in reducing the incidence of the primary composite endpoint of myocardial infarction, stroke, or cardiovascular (CV) dea...

Operative Mortality and Complication Risk Model for All Major Cardiovascular Operations in Japan
Conclusions These risk models increased the discriminatory power of former models. Thus, our models can be said to reflect the current state of Japan. With respect to major complications, useful feedback can now be provided through the Japan Cardiovascular Surgery Database Web-based system.

Safety and efficacy of biocompatible perfusion strategy in a contemporary series of patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting ¿ a two-center study
Conclusions: In a contemporary cohort of patients undergoing CABG, the use of BPS is safe and effective. It is associated with excellent clinical outcomes and reduced allogeneic blood transfusions.

Effect of Prasugrel Pre-Treatment Strategy in Patients Undergoing Percutaneous Coronary Intervention for NSTEMI The ACCOAST-PCI Study
ConclusionsThese findings support deferring treatment with prasugrel until a decision is made about revascularization in patients with NSTEMI undergoing angiography within 48 h of admission. Comparison of new adenosine diphosphate receptor antagonists with clopidogrel in patients with coronary artery disease: a meta-analysis
Abstract Recent data suggest the superiority of new adenosine diphosphate (ADP) receptor antagonists compared with clopidogrel in acute coronary syndrome patients. We aimed to assess the risks and benefits of new ADP receptor antagonists in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). Relevant studies published through February 28, 2014 were searched and identified in the MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Cochrane databases. Summary estimates were obtained using a random-effects model. All nine published randomized controlled studies comparing new ADP receptor antagonists with clopidogrel in CAD were included. The database con...
