Neurologic Complications After Pediatric Heart Transplant: A Single-Center Experience
CONCLUSIONS: Neurologic complications may lead to serious mortality and morbidity in pediatric heart transplant patients. Seizures, posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome, stroke, peripheral neuropathy, transient ischemic attack, and cerebral infections are the most common neurologic complications, which are seen in the perioperative period in particular. Careful follow-up of pediatric heart transplant patients, with detection and early treatment of neurologic findings, will contribute to lower rates of sequelae. Endovascular treatment of stroke in children under 2 years with heart failure and ventricular assist device.
CONCLUSION: As a result of the difficulty in performing arterial puncture, the small vessel calibre and the limitation in the use of iodated contrast, there are certain limitations to endovascular treatment of strokes in children that can lead to complications. Outcomes of Berlin Heart EXCOR ® pediatric ventricular assist device support in patients with restrictive and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
This study reviews the North American experience with Berlin Heart EXCOR® ventricular assist device implants in children with such physiology. The Berlin Heart clinical database was reviewed. Patients with primary diastolic dysfunction are included in this study. Twenty pediatric patients with restrictive cardiomyopathy (n = 13), hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (n = 3), or congenital heart disease with restrictive physiology (n = 4) who were supported with EXCOR® were identified. 'Real-world management and outcomes of patients with paroxysmal vs. non-paroxysmal atrial fibrillation in Europe: the EURObservational Research Programme-Atrial Fibrillation (EORP-AF) General Pilot Registry
Conclusion In this ‘real-world’ contemporary observational registry, patients with non-paroxysmal AF had a worse outcome, in terms of all-cause mortality, which was related to a more severe clinical profile. The risk of stroke at 1 year was relatively low, perhaps reflecting the high rates of anticoagulation use in this cohort.

Pericardiectomy: prompt surgical management of constrictive pericarditis.

The use of a Berlin Heart EXCOR LVAD in a child receiving chemotherapy for Castleman's disease
We present the unique case of a pediatric patient who received chemotherapy for a diagnosis of CD, while mechanically supported with a Berlin EXCOR LVAD secondary to restrictive cardiomyopathy. A four‐yr‐old previously healthy male with restrictive cardiomyopathy required MCS after cardiac arrest but was diagnosed with multicentric CD, a non‐malignant lymphoproliferative disorder fueled by excessive IL‐6 production.
