Stroke Mortality Outcomes in Uganda (S32.002)
Conclusions:Our study highlights the poor outcome of stroke patients in southwestern Uganda with an overall 30-day mortality of 38.1%, and identifies NIHSS at admission, female sex, anemia, and HIV infection as predictors of mortality. While there was no statistically significant difference in mortality between hemorrhagic and ischemic strokes in our study, patients with hemorrhagic stroke did have statistically higher levels of impairment on hospital admission and discharge.Disclosure: Dr. Olum has nothing to disclose. A single-site retrospective study of pediatric arterial ischemic stroke etiology, clinical presentation, and radiologic features.
CONCLUSIONS: PAIS occurs more frequently in younger children and this group most frequently presents with convulsion as the initial symptom. The overall etiologies of PAIS may be different from those of adult stroke and the involved regions may be distinguishing features of PAIS or its different forms, but more research is required. Mineralizing angiopathy with basal ganglia stroke after minor head trauma; a clinical profile and follow up study of a large series of paediatric patients from North India
CONCLUSION: Minor head trauma leading to basal ganglia stroke in children was the most common cause of paediatric stroke in our patients. In follow-up most patients had recovered fully, though a significant minority did not recover completely.PMID:34077857 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejpn.2021.05.011

Infantile Basal Ganglia Stroke after Mild Head Trauma Associated with Mineralizing Angiopathy of Lenticulostriate Arteries: An Under Recognized Entity
We describe five young (7–13 months old on presentation) male children who suffered from hemiparesis due to ischemic stroke of the basal ganglia, four of them after minor head trauma. All of them had calcification in the basal ganglia visible on computed tomography or cranial ultrasound but not on magnetic resonance imaging. Follow-up care was remarkable for recurrent infarction in three patients. One patient had a second symptomatic stroke on the contralateral side, and two patients showed new asymptomatic infarctions in the contralateral basal ganglia on imaging.
