Identification of Circulating MicroRNAs as Potential Biomarkers for Detecting Acute Ischemic Stroke.
In conclusion, we identified the changed expression pattern of miRNAs in IS. Serum miR-32-3p, miR-106-5p, miR-1246, and miR-532-5p may serve as potential diagnostic biomarkers for IS. Our results also demonstrate a novel role for miRNAs in the pathogenesis of IS. PMID: 25410304 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Astrocyte-specific NDRG2 gene: functions in the brain and neurological diseases.
Abstract In recent years, the roles of astrocytes of the central nervous system in brain function and neurological disease have drawn increasing attention. As a member of the N-myc downstream-regulated gene (NDRG) family, NDRG2 is principally expressed in astrocytes of the central nervous system. NDRG2, which is involved in cell proliferation and differentiation, is commonly regarded as a tumor suppressor. In astrocytes, NDRG2 affects the regulation of apoptosis, astrogliosis, blood-brain barrier integrity, and glutamate clearance. Several preclinical studies have revealed that NDRG2 is implicated in the pathogene...

Tat-NTS Suppresses the Proliferation, Migration and Invasion of Glioblastoma Cells by Inhibiting Annexin-A1 Nuclear Translocation
Cell Mol Neurobiol. 2021 Aug 3. doi: 10.1007/s10571-021-01134-y. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPrevention of the nuclear translocation of ANXA1 with Tat-NTS was recently reported to alleviate neuronal injury and protect against cerebral stroke. However, the role that Tat-NTS plays in the occurrence and development of gliomas still needs to be elucidated. Therefore, human glioblastoma (GB) cells were treated with various concentrations of Tat-NTS for 24 h, and cell proliferation, migration and invasion were assessed with CCK-8 and Transwell assays. The nuclear translocation of ANXA1 was evaluated by subcellular extraction a...

Mechanosensitive Piezo1 Channel in Physiology and Pathophysiology of the Central Nervous System
Ageing Res Rev. 2023 Jul 31:102026. doi: 10.1016/j.arr.2023.102026. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSince the discovery of the mechanosensitive Piezo1 channel in 2010, there has been a significant amount of research conducted to explore its regulatory role in the physiology and pathology of various organ systems. Recently, a growing body of compelling evidence has emerged linking the activity of the mechanosensitive Piezo1 channel to health and disease of the central nervous system. However, the exact mechanisms underlying these associations remain inadequately comprehended. This review systematically summarizes the current ...
