Low rates of specialized cancer consultation and cancer-directed therapy for noncurable pancreatic adenocarcinoma: a population-based analysis.
We examined specialized cancer consultation with hepato-pancreatico-biliary surgery, medical and radiation oncology. We used multivariable logistic regression to identify factors associated with medical oncology consultation and cancer-directed therapy. RESULTS: Of 10 881 patients, 64.9% had a consultation with specialists in medical oncology, 35.1% with hepatopancreatico-biliary surgery and 24.7% with radiation oncology. Sociodemographic characteristics were not associated with the likelihood of medical oncology consultation. Of these patients, 4144 received cancer-directed therapy, representing 38.1% of all patients ...

Pancreaticoduodenectomy in the setting of intestinal malrotation
Hawaii Med J. 2011 Nov;70(11):237-8.ABSTRACTMalrotation is an intestinal gestational disorder which not only affects the positioning of the midgut, but also its vascular supply. While this is generally thought of as a pediatric surgical condition, it can have significant implications for adult surgeries as well. Herein we present a patient with asymptomatic nonrotation of the midgut with a concomitant pancreatic adenocarcinoma. The authors review the modifications necessary to perform a pancreaticoduodenectomy in a nonrotated patient. The review includes a caution and emphasis on an understanding of the vascular anatomic v...

HOTAIR Induces Methylation of PCDH10, a Tumor Suppressor Gene, by Regulating DNMT1 and Sponging with miR-148b in Gastric Adenocarcinoma
CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated that HOTAIR interacts with miR-148b and DNMT1, eventually leading to PCDH10 methylation, which contributes to the progression of GC. Our findings provide a better understanding for detailed pathway of HOTAIR in epigenetic mechanism of GC.PMID:33527791 | PMC:PMC7859685 | DOI:10.3349/ymj.2021.62.2.118

A perianal subcutaneous metastasis as the presenting sign for lung cancer
We report a case of a 77-year-old white man who presented with a 9-day history of a painful, rapidly growing mass on his left buttock in the gluteal cleft. The deep dermal location of the neoplasm and the lack of epidermal involvement led to suspicion of a metastatic carcinoma. Imaging showed a lung lesion suspected to be a primary malignancy with distant liver and gastric fundus metastases. Lung pathology showed primarily adenocarcinoma with squamous differentiation, whereas the skin biopsy showed poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinoma. Clinically, we concluded the skin carcinoma was a metastasis of a primary lung ...

Villous adenoma of the urethra
Proc (Bayl Univ Med Cent). 2021 Jan 22;34(2):297-298. doi: 10.1080/08998280.2020.1859846.ABSTRACTVillous adenoma of the genitourinary system is rarely encountered by the general urologist. Although commonly seen in a colorectal practice, this tumor has been infrequently described in the urethra or bladder. In the genitourinary tract, this tumor appears to have excellent survival when isolated; however, it does have an association with adenocarcinoma of the genitourinary or gastrointestinal tract. Here we present a case of villous adenoma of the urethra managed with a multidisciplinary approach, which led to discovery of in...
