Prevalence of complementary and alternative medicine use in brain tumor patients at King Abdulaziz University Hospital, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Conclusion: Education level has a significant effect on CAM use. Gender plays a role in the type of CAM used. Future research should focus on the adverse effects of some CAM therapies, how effective CAM therapies are, and the effect CAM may play in delaying patients from seeking medical advice. The Autopsy, a Fading Practice, Revealed Secrets of COVID-19
By MARION RENAULT Associated Press NEW YORK (AP) — The COVID-19 pandemic has helped revive the autopsy. When the virus first arrived in U.S. hospitals, doctors could only guess what was causing its strange constellation of symptoms: What could explain why patients were losing their sense of smell and taste, developing skin rashes, struggling to breathe and reporting memory loss on top of flu-like coughs and aches? At hospital morgues, which have been steadily losing prominence and funding over several decades, pathologists were busily dissecting the disease’s first victims — and finding some answers. “W...

Plasma concentration of Bisphenol A and leptin in patients with meningioma and glioma: A pilot study
CONCLUSIONS: Occurrence of both meningioma and glioma may be accompanied by increased concentrations of leptin and BPA. Further large-scale studies are needed to clarify whether the presence of both substances may play a role in pathogenesis or influence clinical course in patients with brain neoplasms.PMID:35594764 | DOI:10.1016/j.advms.2022.04.002

Sensors, Vol. 22, Pages 8999: Deep Learning-Based Computer-Aided Diagnosis (CAD): Applications for Medical Image Datasets
This study employs deep learning methods in conjunction with meta-heuristic algorithms and supervised machine-learning algorithms to perform an accurate diagnosis. Pre-trained convolutional neural networks (CNNs) or auto-encoder are used for feature extraction, whereas feature selection is performed using an ant colony optimization (ACO) algorithm. Ant colony optimization helps to search for the best optimal features while reducing the amount of data. Lastly, diagnosis prediction (classification) is achieved using learnable classifiers. The novel framework for the extraction and selection of features is based on deep learn...

Neurofibromatosis type 1-associated optic pathway gliomas: pathogenesis and emerging treatments
Eur Rev Med Pharmacol Sci. 2023 Jun;27(12):5636-5653. doi: 10.26355/eurrev_202306_32804.ABSTRACTNeurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) is an autosomal dominant genetic disorder associated with an increased risk of developing a variety of benign and malignant tumors. Fifteen to 20% of children with NF1 are diagnosed with an optic pathway glioma (NF1-OPG) before 7 years of age, and more than half of them experience visual decline. At present, no effective therapy is available for prevention, restoration, or even stabilization of vision loss in subjects affected by NF1-OPG. This paper aims to review the main emerging pharmacological ...
