Carnosol Inhibits Cerebral Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury by Promoting AMPK Activation
CONCLUSION: Carnosol has a protective effect on ischemic stroke, and this effect is achieved through AMPK activation. Our study demonstrates the protective effect of carnosol on cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury and provides a new perspective for the clinical treatment of ischemic stroke.PMID:36775042 | DOI:10.1016/j.brainresbull.2023.02.003

PHLDA1 knockdown alleviates mitochondrial dysfunction and endoplasmic reticulum stress-induced neuronal apoptosis via activating PPAR γ in cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury
Brain Res Bull. 2023 Jan 18;194:23-34. doi: 10.1016/j.brainresbull.2023.01.007. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMitochondrial dysfunction and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress occur in ischemic stroke. The disruption of these two organelles can directly lead to cell death through various signaling pathways. Thus, investigation of the associated molecular mechanisms in cerebral ischemia is a prerequisite for stroke treatment. Pleckstrin homology-like domain family A member 1 (PHLDA1) is a multifunctional protein that can modulate mitochondrial function and ER stress in cardiomyocyte and cancer cells. This work studied the rol...

α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor agonist improved brain injury and impaired glucose metabolism in a rat model of ischemic stroke
AbstractVagus nerve stimulation through the action of acetylcholine can modulate inflammatory responses and metabolism. α7 Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptor (α7nAChR) is a key component in the biological functions of acetylcholine. To further explore the health benefits of vagus nerve stimulation, this study aimed to investigate whether α7nAChR agonists offer beneficial effects against poststroke inflammatory and m etabolic changes and to identify the underlying mechanisms in a rat model of stroke established by permanent cerebral ischemia. We found evidence showing that pretreatment with α7nAChR agonist, GTS-21, improv...

Diindolylmethane Ameliorates Ischemic Stroke-Induced Brain Injury by Peripheral and Central Mechanisms
CONCLUSION: This inhibition of platelet aggregation, platelet mediated oxidative stress, and inflammation, improved blood flow, and reduced neurological deficits, brain infarction, BBB leakage, brain water content, and histopathological abnormalities indicate the preservation of brain structural integrity. Therefore, these findings conclude that DIM exhibits neuroprotection by inhibiting platelet aggregation. Thus, the present study provided preclinical evidence of DIM neuroprotection against ischemic stroke.PMID:36397630 | DOI:10.2174/1567202620666221116161128
