Genome-wide association study of esophageal squamous cell cancer identifies shared and distinct risk variants in African and Chinese populations
Am J Hum Genet. 2023 Aug 29:S0002-9297(23)00283-5. doi: 10.1016/j.ajhg.2023.08.007. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEsophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) has a high disease burden in sub-Saharan Africa and has a very poor prognosis. Genome-wide association studies (GWASs) of ESCC in predominantly East Asian populations indicate a substantial genetic contribution to its etiology, but no genome-wide studies have been done in populations of African ancestry. Here, we report a GWAS in 1,686 African individuals with ESCC and 3,217 population-matched control individuals to investigate its genetic etiology. We identified a geno...

Genome-wide methylation profiling identified methylated KCNA3 and OTOP2 as promising diagnostic markers for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma
CONCLUSIONS: The dual-target panel based on cfDNA showed excellent performance for detecting ESCC and might be an alternative strategy for screening ESCC.PMID:37650127 | DOI:10.1097/CM9.0000000000002832

The value of RACK1 and peripheral blood M2/M1 monocyte ratio on the prognosis of patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma
This study is to evaluate the effect of receptor for activated c kinase 1 (RACK1) and peripheral blood M2/M1 monocytes ratio on the prognosis of patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). A total of 115 OSCC patients who underwent radical surgery in North China University of Science and Technology Affiliated Hospital from January 2015 to December 2015 were included in the experimental group and 34 healthy individuals after a physical examination during the same period were included in the control group. Cancer and para-cancerous tissues were collected and the relationship between RACK1 and M2/M1 ratio and the progn...

Clinical characteristics of hypersensitivity pneumonitis: non-fibrotic and fibrotic subtypes
CONCLUSIONS: Older age, <20% of lymphocyte in BAL, and ≥1.75% of eosinophil in BAL were risk factors associated with the development of FHP. Prognosis of patients with NFHP was better than that of patients with FHP. These results may provide insights into the mechanisms of fibrosis in HP.PMID:37464421 | DOI:10.1097/CM9.0000000000002613

Target and Mechanism of the Xihuang Pill Based on Network Pharmacology for Lung Squamous Cell Carcinoma
CONCLUSIONS: The study found the targets and relevant pathways of the hub genes of Xihuang Pill using biological analysis and molecular docking and demonstrated the interactions of critical chemical compounds with the hub's targeted genes were. More research is necessary to further determine whether the Xihuang Pill can improve LUSC patients' survival rate by regulation of those genes.PMID:37442189

Salivary extracellular miRNAs for early detection and prognostication of esophageal cancer: a clinical study
CONCLUSION: The salivary EVP-based 6-miRNA signature can serve as noninvasive biomarkers for early detection and risk stratification of ESCC. Chinese Clinical Trial Registry, ChiCTR2000031507.PMID:37399999 | DOI:10.1053/j.gastro.2023.06.021

The differences in immune features and genomic profiling between squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma - A multi-center study in Chinese patients with uterine cervical cancer
CONCLUSIONS: This was the first multi-center study revealing the immunologic and genomic features between SCC and AC in Chinese patients with cervical cancer. Our findings have illustrated the difference in genetic profiles of those two cervical cancer subtypes, which may suggest the possibility of differential treatment regimens, with better immunotherapy efficacy in SCC and targeted therapy options more favorable in AC.PMID:37356314 | DOI:10.1016/j.ygyno.2023.05.071
