Metronomic capecitabine with rapamycin exerts an immunosuppressive effect by inducing ferroptosis of CD4 < sup > + < /sup > T cells after liver transplantation in rat
In conclusion, the autophagy inducer RAPA improved the mCAP-induced ferroptosis in CD4+ T cells. Our results support the concept of ferroptosis as an autophagy-dependent cell death and suggest that the combination of ferroptosis inducers and autophagy inducers is a new research direction for improving immunosuppressive regimens after liver transplantation.PMID:37625370 | DOI:10.1016/j.intimp.2023.110810

The parotid gland, an unusual site of colorectal cancer metastasis
We present a case of stage IV sigmoid colon adenocarcinoma with metastases to the left parotid. The patient was a 53-year-old Filipino man diagnosed with stage IV sigmoid adenocarcinoma with liver metastases in June 2021. He underwent laparoscopic sigmoidectomy and received eight cycles of chemotherapy with capecitabine and oxaliplatin with partial response of his liver lesions. Capecitabine monotherapy was then maintained. On September 2022, he experienced persistent left facial pain, with no relief after dental tooth extraction and antibiotics. A computed tomography (CT) scan revealed a 5 × 7 × 6 cm inhomogenous mass i...

Successful treatment of recurrent esophageal squamous cell carcinoma with muscle metastasis using capecitabine and cetuximab
Proc (Bayl Univ Med Cent). 2022 Jul 25;35(6):834-836. doi: 10.1080/08998280.2022.2101155. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTEsophageal cancer (EC) is a relatively rare malignancy in the United States, although it is associated with high morbidity and mortality. More than 90% of EC cancer-related mortality is due to distant metastasis, most commonly to the liver, lungs, bone, and brain. Although EC has a high tendency for random dissemination, it rarely metastasizes to the muscles and soft tissue. Here, we report a rare case of a patient with recurrent esophageal squamous cell carcinoma metastasis to his left thigh musculature, init...

Oral hyperpigmentation as an initial clinical aspect of hand foot syndrome
This study aims to report a case of oral mucosa hyperpigmentation caused by capecitabine therapy before the clinical diagnosis of HFS. A 58-year-old female, diagnosed with invasive breast duct carcinoma, had the central nervous system, liver, skin, and lung metastasis, using capecitabine every day for 14 cycles. Oral examination revealed multifocal black macules on the hard palate, bilateral buccal mucosa, gingival mucosa, and dorsum of the tongue. The clinical hypothesis was oral mucosa hyperpigmentation by capecitabine use and only periodic follow-up was necessary. Hyperpigmentation of oral mucosa by capecitabine is a ra...
