6-Bromoindirubin-3 ′-Oxime (6BIO) Suppresses the mTOR Pathway, Promotes Autophagy, and Exerts Anti-aging Effects in Rodent Liver
In this study, we aimed to investigate the anti-aging effect, and molecular mechanism, of the novel anti-aging drug 6BIO on naturally aged mouse liver. Rapamycin, a well-known promising anti-aging drug that delays aging through mTOR-dependent autophagy (Zhou and Ye, 2018), was used as the positive control in the study. To our knowledge, this is the first study to demonstrate the effects of 6BIO treatment in models of natural aging. Our results indicated that 6BIO ameliorates the decline of liver function with age, including lipid metabolism disorder, and attenuates hepatocyte senescence in aged mice, as revealed by altera...

Long-term Fine Particulate Matter Exposure and Nonaccidental and Cause-specific Mortality in a Large National Cohort of Chinese Men
Conclusions: Long-term exposure to PM2.5 was associated with nonaccidental, CVD, lung cancer, and COPD mortality in China. The IER estimator may underestimate the excess relative risk of cause-specific mortality due to long-term exposure to PM2.5 over the exposure range experienced in China and other low- and middle-income countries. https://doi.org/10.1289/EHP1673 Received: 24 February 2017 Revised: 01 September 2017 Accepted: 05 September 2017 Published: 07 November 2017 Address correspondence to M. Glycaemia control and the risk of hospitalisation for infection in patients with type 2 diabetes: Hong Kong Diabetes Registry
ConclusionsIn patients with type 2 diabetes, burden of serious infection is high. In the diabetic population, a U‐shape relationship between glycaemia and infection‐related hospitalisation was detected.

Duplex sonography for detection of deep vein thrombosis of upper extremities: a 13-year experience.
CONCLUSIONS. Upper-extremity deep vein thrombosis is uncommon among symptomatic Chinese population. The most common sign is swelling and the major risk factor for upper-extremity deep vein thrombosis identified in this study is malignancy. PMID: 25722467 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Middle cerebral artery infarction in a cancer patient: a fatal case of Trousseau's syndrome.
This report describes a young, previously healthy man diagnosed to have an acute middle cerebral arterial ischaemic stroke and lower-limb deep vein thrombosis, who subsequently succumbed to pulmonary arterial embolism. During the course of his illness, he was diagnosed to have a malignant pleural effusion secondary to an occult adenocarcinoma. This report highlights the need for a high degree of suspicion for occult malignancy and non-bacterial thrombotic endocarditis in young (<60 years old) ischaemic stroke patients with no identifiable conventional cardiovascular risks. In selected patients, transoesophageal echocard...
