Conclusions: Beta-blockers and flecainide are effective in reducing the incidence of postoperative AF in patients after pulmonary resections which is not the case with digoxin; data on remaining treatments are sparse and preclude drawing definite conclusions. Comparative effectiveness of antiarrhythmic drugs for rhythm control of atrial fibrillation.
CONCLUSION: Compared with dronedarone, amiodarone, class 1C agents, and sotalol are more effective for rhythm control, while dofetilide had similar efficacy. These findings have important implications for clinical practice. PMID: 26233885 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Drug interactions and pharmacogenetic factors contribute to variation in apixaban concentration in atrial fibrillation patients in routine care
In this study, we assessed the impact of interacting medication and pharmacogenetic variation to better explain apixaban concentration differences among 358 Caucasian AF patients. Genotyping (ABCG2,ABCB1,CYP3A4*22,CYP3A5*3) was performed by TaqMan assays, and apixaban quantified by mass spectrometry. The typical patient was on average 77.2  years old, 85.5 kg, and had a serum creatinine of 103.1 µmol/L. Pharmacological interventions for preventing atrial fibrillation after lung surgery: systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionCurrent clinical evidence supports the effectiveness of pharmacological intervention with beta-blockers, amiodarone, magnesium sulfate, or calcium-channel blockers to reduce the incidence of POAF after lung surgery in patients with lung cancer. In the absence of contraindications, prophylaxis with beta-blockers seems to be the most effective of the treatments studied.
