COVID-19 mRNA vaccine in pregnancy: Results of the Swiss COVI-PREG registry, an observational prospective cohort study
Lancet Reg Health Eur. 2022 May 29;18:100410. doi: 10.1016/j.lanepe.2022.100410. eCollection 2022 Jul.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Pregnant individuals with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are at increased risk of severe disease, prematurity, and stillbirth. In March 2021, vaccination for at risk pregnant women was recommended in Switzerland, expanding this to all pregnant women in May 2021. Our aim was to assess the safety of mRNA COVID-19 vaccines in pregnancy.METHODS: This multicentre prospective cohort study describes early adverse events and perinatal outcomes in pregnant women who received at least one dose of mRNA vaccin...

Mask Effectiveness for Preventing Secondary Cases of COVID-19, Johnson County, Iowa, USA
Emerg Infect Dis. 2021 Oct 12;28(1). doi: 10.3201/eid2801.211591. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn September of 2020, the Iowa Department of Public Health released guidance stating that persons exposed to someone with coronavirus disease (COVID-19) need not quarantine if the case-patient and the contact wore face masks at the time of exposure. This guidance differed from that issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. To determine the best action, we matched exposure information from COVID-19 case investigations with reported test results and calculated the secondary attack rates (SARs) after masked and unma...

SARS-CoV-2 Neutralization Resistance Mutations in Patient with HIV/AIDS, California, USA
We report persistent severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection in a patient with HIV/AIDS; the virus developed spike N terminal domain and receptor binding domain neutralization resistance mutations. Our findings suggest that immunocompromised patients can harbor emerging variants of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2.PMID:34296992 | DOI:10.3201/eid2710.211461

Possible Human-to-Dog Transmission of SARS-CoV-2, Italy, 2020
Emerg Infect Dis. 2021 May 12;27(7). doi: 10.3201/eid2707.204959. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWe detected severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 in an otherwise healthy poodle living with 4 family members who had coronavirus disease. We observed antibodies in serum samples taken from the dog, indicating seroconversion. Full-length genome sequencing showed that the canine and human viruses were identical, suggesting human-to-animal transmission.PMID:33979566 | DOI:10.3201/eid2707.204959

SARS-CoV-2 infection in schools in a northern French city: a retrospective serological cohort study in an area of high transmission, France, January to April 2020
ConclusionsViral circulation can occur in high and primary schools so keeping them open requires consideration of appropriate control measures and enhanced surveillance.PMID:33860747 | DOI:10.2807/1560-7917.ES.2021.26.15.2001695
