COVID-19 in patients with rheumatological diseases in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia
J Med Life. 2023 Jun;16(6):873-882. doi: 10.25122/jml-2023-0037.ABSTRACTThe severity of the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and its effects remain unpredictable. Certain factors, such as obesity, hypertension, and type 2 diabetes mellitus, may increase the severity of the disease. Rheumatology experts suggest that patients with active autoimmune conditions and controlled autoimmune diseases on immunosuppressive therapy may be at higher risk of developing severe COVID-19. In this retrospective observational study, we aimed to examine the patterns of COVID-19 in patients with underlying rheumatological diseases and their...

Glucose control in the early phase of hospitalization is associated with severe prognosis in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients with diabetes in Japan
In this study, we found that the risk of severe COVID-19 increased in patients with a high mean PPCG in the early phase of hospitalization, suggesting that good glucose control in the early phase of COVID-19 with diabetes may be effective in preventing disease severity.

Persistent lymphocyte reduction and interleukin-6 levels are independently associated with death in patients with COVID-19
AbstractTo investigate the value of the peripheral blood lymphocyte count (LYM) combined with interleukin-6 (IL-6) in predicting disease severity and prognosis in patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2  (SARS-CoV-2) pneumonia. This was a prospective observational cohort study. A total of 109 patients with SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia who were admitted to Nanjing First Hospital from December 2022 to January 2023 were enrolled. The patients were divided into two groups based on disease severity: severe (46 patients) and critically ill (63 patients). The clinical data of all patients were collected. The clinic...

COVID-19 Associated Mucormycosis
AbstractMucormycosis is a life-threatening opportunistic fungal infection seen in immunocompromised states. Rising incidence of mucormycosis among Coronavirus Disease-2019 infected individuals is an increasing concern in India. The disease which was endemic has blown out to become an epidemic. The purpose of this research is to study the epidemiology, management and outcome of Coronavirus Disease-2019 Associated Mucormycosis (CAM) cases. Additionally, the role of diabetes and steroids in the causation of CAM was determined. A hospital-based observational study was conducted at a tertiary care centre involving cases with rh...
