Introducing a new proforma for the safe use of intraoperative tourniquets in orthopaedic surgery
CONCLUSIONS: Despite tourniquet usage being part of the UK Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery curriculum, this study is the first to highlight a lack of compliance with 'gold standard' guidelines and the need for increased training for staff to ensure patients are exposed to the safest possible environment. Is pelvic ultrasound useful in the clinical assessment and management of women with right iliac fossa pain? A single-centre retrospective study
CONCLUSIONS: In patients who underwent operative management, a negative finding or finding not requiring surgical management was associated with no preoperative imaging. A systematic review of the prevalence of burnout in orthopaedic surgeons
CONCLUSIONS: Nearly one in two orthopaedic surgeons are burnt out. There is a paucity of data on the short and long-term impact of COVID-19 on burnout. Burnout has deep organisational, personal and clinical implications. Surgical treatment of Boerhaave syndrome in the past, present and future: updated results of a specialised surgical unit
CONCLUSIONS: Early and aggressive management of spontaneous oesophageal rupture ameliorates the postoperative recovery and prognosis. A diagnosis of syphilis following a radical circumcision for suspected penile cancer
We present a case of a 70-year-old gentleman who was referred to our tertiary 2-week-wait penile cancer clinic with a penile mass that was ulcerated, painful and discharging. This was suspicious for penile cancer and a radical circumcision was performed to remove the diseased foreskin en bloc with the lesion that was arising from the inner foreskin. Histopathology did not reveal cancer; however, we identified spirochaetes in keeping with syphilis. This was confirmed on serology. A systematic review and meta-analysis of the use of packing in the management of perianal abscesses

Factors associated with increased radiation exposure in the fixation of proximal femoral fractures
CONCLUSIONS: Increased radiation in proximal femur fractures is seen in the fixation of complex fractures, some subtypes, with certain types of implants used and if an additional implant was required. Association of day-case rates with post COVID-19 recovery of elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy activity across England
CONCLUSIONS: Recovery of elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy activity has been better in South West England than in other regions.
