Hunt's 'sincere' words only strike a false note.
Authors: Abstract The first strike by NHS staff over pay in more than 30 years - and the first by members of the Royal College of Midwives in its history - will hopefully force ministers to rethink their decision to freeze pay rates for 1.3 million health service staff. Those taking part in Monday's four-hour stoppage and this week's 'work-to-rule' deserve great credit for making a sacrifice so that everyone in the NHS may benefit. Postnatal care planning.
Authors: Abstract Essential facts For most women, the postnatal period ends six to eight weeks after birth. The quality of postnatal care provided to women and families in the first days and weeks after birth can have a significant impact on their experience of the transition to parenthood, says the National Childbirth Trust (NCT) charity. There has been a demonstrable decrease both in the length of postnatal stay in hospital and the number of home visits. The value of care continuit...

Is the RCN fearful of the outcome should the response be a yes? PMID: 25116554 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Nursing Standard)

Midwifery in the UK: How do we move midwifery led care from fringe to mainstream?
For just over a year I have been President of the Royal College of Midwives. The RCM is both trade union and professional organisation for midwives and maternity support workers in the UK and has over 41,000 members. The vast majority of midwives are members. The RCM is influential with government in all four countries of the UK; England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Each country has strong woman centred maternity policies and recognises the crucial role of midwives, and midwifery as an autonomous profession. The Royal College of Midwives has close collaborations with the medical colleges. As President I have visi...
