Submandibular Ectopic Parathyroid Adenoma: A Case Report
In this report, we discuss the diagnostic and therapeutic challenges posed by ectopic parathyroid adenomas, a rare but atypical presentation of PHPT. We present the case of a 36-year-old female with PHPT due to an ectopic parathyroid adenoma located in the submandibular region. The patient presented with bone pain and was initially evaluated with routine imaging studies, which were negative. [18F] F-choline positron emission tomography (PET)/Computed tomography revealed the ectopic adenoma, leading to successful surgical management. Ectopic parathyroid adenomas are rare but can occur in various locations, and functional im...

Improving the efficacy of exposure therapy using projection-based augmented reality for the treatment of cockroach phobia: a randomised clinical trial protocol
Introduction In vivo exposure is the treatment of choice for specific phobia (SP), but this technique presents limitations related to access and acceptability. Augmented reality (AR) offers advantages like maximising strategies such as ‘variability’ (varying stimuli, durations, levels of intensity or the order of the items), control by the therapist, or ‘exposure to multiple contexts’, which can produce positive effects in terms of fear renewal and generalisation of the results. The aim of this study is to test the efficacy of varying the phobic stimuli during treatment with AR: using multiple stimu...

Patient-Specific 3D Printed Soft Models for Liver Surgical Planning and Hands-On Training
Conclusions: It is demonstrated that it is possible to manufacture accurate and cost-effective 3D-printed soft surgical planning simulators for treating liver cancer. The 3D models allowed for proper pre-surgical planning and simulation training in the three cases reported, making it a valuable aid for surgeons.PMID:37102951 | DOI:10.3390/gels9040339 (Source: Cancer Control)

NICU Visitation Time and Adherence to Safe Sleep Practices Among Mothers of Very Preterm Infants
Adv Neonatal Care. 2023 Apr 10. doi: 10.1097/ANC.0000000000001066. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Sleep-associated infant death is the leading cause of postneonatal mortality in the United States. Preterm infants are at higher risk for sleep-associated death, but maternal adherence to safe sleep practices is lower than for mothers of full-term infants. Data are lacking on whether maternal neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) visitation time impacts safe sleep compliance after hospital discharge.PURPOSE: For mothers of preterm infants, to investigate the association of time days per week spent in the NICU and adhe...
