Can duochrome nail polish become monochrome over time?
Missionista must know…I have a couple of (Sephora) duochrome nail polishes. One shifts from lavender to grey, and the other from hot pink to orange. Lately, I’ve noticed less shift in the colors. The lavender one has lost almost all the grey, and the pink is much less orange. Can duochrome polishes become monochrome over time? Am I just hallucinating? The Beauty Brains respond Mon0-Chrome? Duo-Chrome? Personally, I prefer Safari. But enough with the bad browser puns. How do DuoChrome polishes work? As usual, the first thing we do when faced with a question like this is take a look at the ingredient list for clues abou...

Be careful what you believe about ingredient lists
Design A Thought says…While I am a lover of these “chem free” products I love them because (I must stress some of them! you have to carefully look at the ingredients list!) they are using the ingredients grown from our good earth not cheaply mass produced in a lab so some company can reep the profits. I found that through some careful research, many of my products contained harmful chemicals which could be substituted with a natural one. But there goes profit, the cheaper the product the more of us hard up people with loads of bills are going to buy them. Not all of us have the knowledge to know what goes into our ...

You need to learn what’s new, what’s out, what’s flying off the shelves - and then carefully consider whether your purchase will add to your child’s entertainment stockpile. But if you have a child with special needs, especially one who is struggling with depression, finding the right toy can feel even more daunting.Though there are many different kinds of games and toys, here are 8 categories that I teach parents to consider thinking about when holiday shopping. These themes help with healing and are also super fun to...

"I Don't Know My Body" Patient Creates Havoc In Local ER.
Fort Collins, CO --  Doctors and nurses at St. Mary's Hospital were on edge yesterday after 27 year-old teenager Jenny Franklin ran straight through ER triage repeatedly yelling "I don't know my body!" as her mother smother, with two suitcases in tow, hovered over her every word. "In my 27 years of nursing, I've never had an anxious young female  tell me they didn't know their body.  Quite frankly, I was scared for her," said Janice Jurgensen, the ER nurse assigned to stabilize Jenny and her mother as payback for calling in sick three Friday nights in a row.  "We've had drills to prepare us for this day...

How to Become a Dementia Detective
Try to put yourself in his or her shoes: what would you need to feel better?By Rachael WonderlinAlzheimer's Reading Room As corny as it sounds, the best way to help the person you’re caring for is to become a “Dementia Detective.” Someone with dementia might have trouble explaining why they’re upset, or what you can do to fix the problem. Problem solving is actually my favorite thing about working with people who have dementia—it gives me a chance to be creative and come up with a solution that will improve a person’s life. LBBB on Cardiac Ultrasound: do not be fooled into diagnosing a wall motion abnormality!
The last case on the blog of LBBB with very high voltage was actually first identified as LBBB by ED bedside echo, which was done PRIOR to the ECG. The images were captured on one of our new ultrasound machines, with Speckle Tracking, which uses software to outline the movement of the myocardium, making it easier to see the wall motion. The sonographers acquiring the image stated "there is a wall motion abnormality." Question:Is there a wall motion abnormality?  Better question: the wall motion is abnormal, but why? Here is the Apical view: apical from HQMedEd on Vimeo. Here is a still picture with annotation:White oval...

Softsoap Lavender and Chamomile: Look at the label
Softsoap’s Lavender and Chamomile liquid soap is one of the top selling products on Amazon.com. Looking at the label you’ll see that it contains neither lavender nor chamomile. NaturOli Restorative Skin Repair Cream – Look at the Label
This “100% natural” skin moisturizer is a top seller on Amazon.com this week. Let’s look at the label to see how natural it really is. Color us skeptical but most product that claim to be all-natural typically end up with hidden synthetic ingredients. So imagine our surprise to see that NaturOli lives up to its name better than most we have seen. The good and bad of natural As you can see from the ingredient list below all of the oil-based ingredients are derived from plant sources such as olives, avocados and sesame seeds. It also uses an amino acid derived preservative rather than the typical formaldeh...
