Sarcopenia, physical activity and sedentary behavior among nursing home residents in Germany
CONCLUSION: Nonsarcopenic residents demonstrated a higher number of steps and lower sedentary behavior compared with presarcopenic and sarcopenic residents. Increasing steps, reducing sedentary behavior and promoting activities of daily living can contribute to the prevention and treatment of sarcopenia in the nursing home setting.PMID:38276995 | DOI:10.1007/s00391-023-02275-z (Source: Zeitschrift fur Gerontologie und Geriatrie)

Socio-technical innovations and participation
DISCUSSION: Interdisciplinary connecting lines are listed that can inspire current development projects, thus opening a corridor for efforts in the further development of analytical, conceptual and methodological perspectives. The discussion provides interdisciplinary approaches for the conception, design and appropriation of IT applications and infrastructures for and with older people on the basis of participatory and qualitative empirical approaches. The aim is to align IT design more closely with situated practices, sociocultural contexts and sense-making processes of older people.PMID:38276996 | DOI:10.1007/s00391-023...

Learning interactions with socio-technical systems : A  geragogical perspective on the importance of interactions and relationships in learning processes with older people
DISCUSSION: Empirical findings can be used to develop starting points for educational and learning processes to expand competences in the context of technology use. Approaches to education, training and further training follow on from this as does the question of whether the research/development process itself must be designed as a learning process in which all participants are involved as learners, with the aim of achieving the best possible fit between the technical solutions and the intended areas of application in real-world situations.PMID:38270606 | DOI:10.1007/s00391-023-02274-0 (Source: Zeitschrift fur Gerontologie und Geriatrie)

Design and evaluation options of multimedia applications to support the care of people with mild dementia
This study is based on 11 expert interviews guided by questions and examines design options and requirements for application content as well as requirements for study designs to provide evidence of the effectiveness of touch-based multimedia applications for MMD and their caregiving relatives (PA).RESULTS: There is a high degree of consensus regarding the criteria for requirements for touch-based multimedia applications. Acceptance is highly dependent on user competence, usage practices, experiences and incentive structures; however, there are diverse opinions about their structural and content-related design. The quality ...

Internationalization as an innovation in long-term care
CONCLUSION: Significant innovation needs lie in the areas of implementation of recognition procedures, operational integration measures and approaches to municipal cooperation.PMID:38231210 | DOI:10.1007/s00391-023-02279-9 (Source: Zeitschrift fur Gerontologie und Geriatrie)

Cooperation of geriatrics and trauma surgery in certified geriatric trauma centers : Insights into different care models and the implementation of requirements resulting from certification
In this study 4 guided focus group interviews (FGI) were conducted in different teams of certified geriatric trauma centers in 3 federal states with 16 participants. To specify the content of the FGI, two additional interviews were conducted with system auditors. Both types of interview were analyzed by content analysis.RESULTS: The certification supported the implementation of structures and processes in the different orthogeriatric models; however, the quality of care and cooperation between surgery and geriatrics depends on the spatial proximity and the orthogeriatric care model in the geriatric trauma centers. Simultan...

Older adults' communication with an interactive humanoid robot : Expectations and experiences of older adults in verbal and nonverbal communication with a  socially interactive humanoid robot: a mixed methods design in Germany
CONCLUSION: The robot's ability to communicate nonverbally might positively influence older adults' experience of communication with the robot. In the development of socially interactive robots non-verbal communication should be given more consideration in order to contribute to successful human-robot interaction.PMID:38180514 | DOI:10.1007/s00391-023-02268-y (Source: Zeitschrift fur Gerontologie und Geriatrie)

Digital care beds in long-term care-Support, relief for caregivers or just illusion? An ethnographic explorative study
CONCLUSION: For a successful implementation of digital assistance systems (dAS), they have to be considered in the care process besides a reliable technical connection. Furthermore, an implementation management as well as the review and adaptation of all relevant context factors are required.PMID:38165442 | DOI:10.1007/s00391-023-02267-z (Source: Zeitschrift fur Gerontologie und Geriatrie)
