Update of the recommendations of the Federal Falls Prevention Initiative-Identification and prevention of the risk of falling in older people living at home
CONCLUSION: By updating the BIS recommendations, the establishment and promotion of fall prevention services for older people in Germany can be further advanced. The implementation can thus be carried out as consistently and scientifically proven as possible.PMID:37695366 | DOI:10.1007/s00391-023-02229-5 (Source: Zeitschrift fur Gerontologie und Geriatrie)

Sleep and dementia
This article explores the question of the interaction between sleep and dementia based on the existing literature. Alterations caused by slow wave sleep lead to changes in the glymphatic clearance of amyloid beta, tau proteins and other proteins. Transient and chronic sleep disorders cause disturbances in the brain areas responsible for cognition and behavior. Sleep-regulating brain areas are the first to be affected in the neurodegenerative process and accelerate the risk of dementia. Circadian age-related changes in amyloid beta and tau proteins affect the amount and depth of sleep and vice versa. Amyloid beta in cerebro...

Lifestyle-integrated functional exercise for fall prevention : How and why do walking characteristics change?
CONCLUSION: The LiFE program seems to work on a behavioral rather than on a functional level. By accumulating short walking episodes, large gains in physical activity can potentially be achieved. This can be of health-promoting benefit especially for persons living in institutional settings or for those who are cautious or even anxious to undertake longer walking episodes (e.g., outdoors).PMID:37676321 | DOI:10.1007/s00391-023-02230-y (Source: Zeitschrift fur Gerontologie und Geriatrie)

Implementation behavior of communities regarding relatives caring for people with dementia : A  quantitative study among German communities
CONCLUSION: The CIBQ is a tool to determine the status of implementation behavior of communities. This enables an analysis of the areas CAs need to work on in order to optimize the implementation of support services for CRs of PWD or other health and care-related topics.PMID:37674060 | DOI:10.1007/s00391-023-02232-w (Source: Zeitschrift fur Gerontologie und Geriatrie)

Hypogonadism is frequent in very old men with multimorbidity and is associated with anemia and sarcopenia
CONCLUSION: Hypogonadism is common in geriatric patients. If chronic anemia, sarcopenia, or osteoporosis are diagnosed, testosterone levels should be determined in geriatric settings.PMID:37674061 | DOI:10.1007/s00391-023-02235-7 (Source: Zeitschrift fur Gerontologie und Geriatrie)

Use of technology in old age: associations between acceptance, competence, control, interest and social indicators in individuals over 60  years old
This study aimed to examine the associations between technology use, sociodemographic factors, action-theoretical constructs, and technology interest.MATERIAL AND METHODS: Data were collected from 585 study participants aged over 60 years from 14 surveys conducted between 2014 and 2020. A structural equation model was used to explain the relationships.RESULTS: The structural equation model with covariates of survey year, age, gender, and education (n = 585) yielded the following fit indices: comparative fit index (CFI) = 0.918, Tucker-Lewis index (TLI) = 0.894, Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA) = 0.056 [95 % ...
