Quantitative damage evaluation of curved plates based on phased array guided wave and deep learning algorithm
In this study, a novel integrated framework, GW-SHMnet, is proposed, which leverages the advantages of the PAGW, finite element (FE) modeling, and deep learning algorithm. Firstly, an FE model is constructed to simulate PAGW propagation in curved plates. Secondly, PAGW experiments are performed on a curved aluminum plate to validate the FE model. Thirdly, an FE simulation database considering different sensor locations, testing frequencies, and damage sizes, is constructed and used as the training and testing data. Finally, deep learning is used to automatically extract features to determine damage size. The effectiveness,...

Ultrasound image super-resolution reconstruction based on semi-supervised CycleGAN
Ultrasonics. 2023 Oct 9;137:107177. doi: 10.1016/j.ultras.2023.107177. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn ultrasonic testing, diffraction artifacts generated around defects increase the challenge of quantitatively characterizing defects. In this paper, we propose a label-enhanced semi-supervised CycleGAN network model, referred to as LESS-CycleGAN, which is a conditional cycle generative adversarial network designed for accurately characterizing defect morphology in ultrasonic testing images. The proposed method introduces paired cross-domain image samples during model training to achieve a defect transformation between the ...

Thorough ultrasonic rheology of soft, visco-elastic materials: Example of crosslinked Polyurethane elastomer
We present a thorough procedure for measuring the rheological properties of soft, highly attenuating, visco-elastic materials at ultrasonic frequencies. The material chosen for this illustration is a crosslinked Polyurethane (PU) elastomer (Sika UR3440 type), which is widely used in the field of underwater acoustics. We determine its complex longitudinal modulus M and shear modulus G as function of frequency in the range 1-5 MHz and of temperature in the range 5-40 °C. M is determined from the measurement of the transmission of longitudinal, plane waves by a slab of PU immersed in water. G is determined by contact measure...
