Updated review of wet pack complications in pulse vacuum pressure steam sterilisation processes in central sterile supply departments
Trop Doct. 2023 Dec 17:494755231217322. doi: 10.1177/00494755231217322. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe quality of sterilisation and disinfection in a central sterile supply department is directly related to the quality of the hospital services and the patients' safety. Wet packs occasionally occur following the process of pressure steam sterilisation; reducing this occurrence is an important issue. Therefore, the causes of wet pack following sterilisation were analysed to identify the influencing factors and suggest improvements to prevent its occurrence. Understanding the sterilisation process and possible causes of ex...

Investigation of pseudo-urogenital myiasis and errors in diagnosis
Trop Doct. 2023 Dec 12:494755231219529. doi: 10.1177/00494755231219529. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCases of genitourinary myiasis in humans caused by larvae of flies are reported from time to time. In our study, 11 patients, who reported worms in their urine and brought these worms to our laboratory, were investigated. The larvae were found to belong to the subfamily Psychodinae. By taking urine samples carefully from the patients, examining and evaluating their history, it was concluded that they did not actually have myiasis. We endeavour to describe the pitfalls in this diagnosis.PMID:38087417 | DOI:10.1177/004947552...

A case of lower limb ulcer caused by hydroxyurea in treating primary thrombocytosis
We reported an elderly patient with lower limb ulcers caused by hydroxyurea treatment for primary thrombocytosis. When hydroxide is used, close observation of skin lesions and prompt handling of any skin disruption should prevent ulcers.PMID:38087420 | DOI:10.1177/00494755231219817 (Source: Tropical Doctor)

Abdominal wall calcification in a peritoneal dialysis patient
We describe a 40-year-old lady, a type 2 diabetic and hypertensive for the past 14 years, who did not have any history, clinical features or laboratory results suggesting autoimmune disease, and had not suffered from tuberculosis in the past, but who had been diagnosed with chronic kidney disease in 2016. She had initiated peritoneal dialysis in December 2018.PMID:38093193 | DOI:10.1177/00494755231218773 (Source: Tropical Doctor)
