Pneumonectomy with carinal sleeve resection in patients with non-small cell lung cancer
Conclusion Carinal sleeve resection with pneumonectomy is a feasible procedure with limited morbidity and mortality. This procedure is a reasonable therapeutic option for patients with locally advanced central NSCLC after mandatory patient selection.PMID:37884031 | DOI:10.1055/a-2199-2164 (Source: The Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeon)

Mortality related risk factors: Results from the Brandenburg Endocarditis Register
CONCLUSIONS: Our first Registry data show the complexity of endocarditis patients and the challenging treatment. Some risk factors can be treated preoperatively. For instance, hypalbuminemia and the duration of the procedure which can be controlled with adequate albumin substitution and carefully planned procedures restricted to the essential requirements, i.e. hybrid approaches with consecutive interventions.PMID:37884029 | DOI:10.1055/a-2199-2344 (Source: The Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeon)

A Randomized Trial Comparing One-year Hemodynamics of Two Bovine Pericardial Valves
CONCLUSIONS: The 1-year hemodynamic and clinical outcomes of the AVALUS group were noninferior to those of the CEPME group. (NCT03796442).PMID:37884030 | DOI:10.1055/a-2199-2087 (Source: The Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeon)

Acquired thrombocytopenia in contemporary transcatheter aortic valve prostheses
CONCLUSION: Despite improvements in outcome, the current generation of balloon-expandable TAVI prosthesis carry a predisposition for postprocedural thrombocytopenia even when the effects of dilution are accounted for.PMID:37879360 | DOI:10.1055/a-2198-1235 (Source: The Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeon)

Outcomes of CT-Guided Deeper Localization Technique for Superficial Pulmonary Nodules
Conclusion CT-guided microcoil localization of superficial pulmonary nodules prior to VATS using a deeper localization technique is feasible. Deeper localization technique reduced the occurrence of dislocation but did not increase excised lung volume. Hemodynamics and Diastolic Function after Native Aortic Valve Preserving vs. Replacing Surgery
Conclusion Preservation of native tissue in AV surgery results in superior transvalvular hemodynamics compared with prosthetic AV replacement. This may induce faster LV reverse remodeling and may explain more pronounced improvement in LV diastolic function.
