Psychometric Properties of Physical Function Measures Used in the Intensive Care Unit: A Systematic Review
Conclusion: This study identified 14 physical function measures currently in use, with psychometric testing available within the ICU setting. More testing is needed on many of these measures to further validate their use. The current lack of a clearly comprehensive outcome measure tool limits the validity and reliability of assessment and guidance for appropriate recommendations. Mapping and Assessment of a Threaded Acute Care Curriculum Using Entry-Level Core Competencies Established by Academy of Acute Care Physical Therapy
The Academy of Acute Care Physical Therapy recently established core competencies for entry-level practice in acute care settings. The purpose of this article is to describe and evaluate a model that embeds the competencies throughout an entry-level curriculum, emphasizes active learning strategies, and facilitates student proficiency in clinical decision making in the acute care setting. Faculty-mapped course objectives, learning activities, and assessment methods to the competencies and identified redundancies and gaps. Student learning was assessed using a variety of activities including computerized modules and authent...

Simulation Training Facilitates Physical Therapists' Self-efficacy in the Intensive Care Unit
Conclusions: The HFHS program facilitated PTs' teamwork, collaboration, and self-efficacy for ICU clinical practice. Further investigation is recommended to evaluate the efficacy of HFHS as a training tool to enhance PT practice in the ICU. (Source: The Journal of Acute Care Physical Therapy)

Factors Impacting Discharge Destination From Acute Care for Patients With Traumatic Brain Injury: A Systematic Review
Conclusion: This review presents quantitative information related to factors likely to impact the corresponding discharge destination for patients with TBI. Clinically, professionals may consider this information when determining discharge destination for a patient with TBI following an acute care hospital stay. Compliance With Hand-Washing Guidelines Among Visitors From the Community to Acute Care Settings: A Scoping Review
Conclusions: Visitor compliance with hand hygiene guidelines is highly variable but may be amenable to public health interventions. Higher quality studies focused on health outcomes are necessary to generate best practice recommendations related to hand hygiene. (Source: The Journal of Acute Care Physical Therapy)

Examining Factors, Strategies, and Processes to Decrease Physical Therapy Turnover Rates in Acute Care Hospitals: A Review of the Literature
This article also discusses processes such as changing organizational variables, continuously assessing the workforce, establishing an internal leadership bank, and employee/management surveys as strategies to enhance retention of acute care physical therapists. A variety of collective actions by both managers and employees can be implemented to reduce the challenges of acute care physical therapy turnover. No one action is more important than the others. Recommendations for future research include a qualitative study of employees who have worked in and subsequently left acute care hospitals to understand their lived expe...

Multidrug-Resistant Organisms: A Review of Transmission and Control
Conclusion: Universal decolonization in intensive care units is one of the few strategies supported by a high level of evidence. Physical therapists must understand the development and transmission of MDROs, so that they can protect themselves, as well as others they come in contact with. Review of the integument, particularly in athletes, is important to identify MRSA lesions early. (Source: The Journal of Acute Care Physical Therapy)
