Complexities of health and acceptance of electronic health records for the Austrian elderly population
AbstractWe examine the personal health situation and how the complexities thereof affect the elderly Austrians ’ willingness to accept electronic health records (EHR). Using data from the sixth wave of the SHARE survey in Austria, we find the complexity of individual health problems and the social integration of individuals influencing the acceptance of EHR. The higher the degree of multimorbidity, the mor e medication is prescribed, and the higher the number of hospital admissions, the higher is the acceptance of EHR. Having a chronical illness has a positive effect on EHR acceptance, whereas a pessimistic attitude and ...

Hospital resource utilisation from HPV-related diseases in England: a real-world cost analysis
ConclusionThe results of this study highlight that a substantial amount of resources is utilized for the treatment of HPV-related diseases at hospital level in England. These measures have the potential to inform policy decisions to ensure an optimal use of the NHS resources. (Source: The European Journal of Health Economics)

On absolute socioeconomic health inequality comparisons
AbstractThis paper introduces a new graphical tool: the mean deviation concentration curve. Using a unified approach, we derive the associated dominance conditions that identify robust rankings of absolute socioeconomic health inequality for all indices obeying Bleichrodt and van Doorslaer ’s (J Health Econ 25:945–957,2006)principle of income-related health transfer. We also derive dominance conditions that are compatible with other transfer principles available in the literature. To make the identification of all robust orderings implementable using survey data, we discuss statistical inference for these dominance tes...

Prescription opioids and economic hardship in France
AbstractThis paper studies how opioid analgesic sales are empirically related to socioeconomic disparities in France, with a focus on poverty. This analysis is made possible using theOpenHealth database, which provides retail sales data for opioid analgesics available on the French market. We exploit firm-level data for each of the 94 departments in Metropolitan France between 2008 and 2017. We show that increases in the poverty rate are associated with increases in sales: a one percentage point increase in poverty is associated with approximately a 5% increase in mild opioid sales. Our analysis further shows that opioid s...

Comparative performance and mapping algorithms between EQ-5D-5L and SF-6Dv2 among the Chinese general population
ConclusionsBoth measures showed comparable discriminative validity. Systematic differences in utilities were found, and on average, the EQ-5D-5L generates higher values than the SF-6Dv2. Mapping algorithms between the EQ-5D-5L and SF-6Dv2 are reported to enable transformations between these two measures in China. (Source: The European Journal of Health Economics)

Cost and cost-effectiveness of four different SARS-CoV-2 active surveillance strategies: evidence from a randomised control trial in Germany
ConclusionA2 (direct testing at household level) proved to be the most cost-effective of the four evaluated strategies and should be considered as an option to strengthen the routine surveillance system in Germany and similar settings. (Source: The European Journal of Health Economics)

Does uptake of specialty care affect HRQoL development in COPD patients beneficially? A difference-in-difference analysis linking claims and survey data
ConclusionThe uptake of pulmonologist care had a statistically significant, but not clinically relevant, beneficial impact on the development of HRQoL by slowing down overall HRQoL deterioration within 1  year. Including specialty care more appropriately in COPD management, especially at lower disease stages (GOLD AB), could thus improve patients’ health outcome. Cost-effectiveness of ravulizumab compared with eculizumab for the treatment of paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria in the Netherlands
ConclusionsThe cost reduction and QALY gain associated with the lower rates of BTH and less frequent administration make ravulizumab a cost-saving and clinically beneficial substitute for eculizumab for adults with PNH in the Netherlands. (Source: The European Journal of Health Economics)
