Implementing screening for myocardial injury in non-cardiac surgery: perspectives of an ad-hoc interdisciplinary expert group
Conclusion. This expert opinion piece by an interdisciplinary group of predominantly Norwegian clinicians aims to assist healthcare professionals planning to implement guideline-recommended PMI screening at a local level in order to improve patient outcomes following non-cardiac surgery.PMID:37141087 | DOI:10.1080/14017431.2022.2112071 (Source: Scandinavian Cardiovascular Journal)

Dobutamine effects on systolic and diastolic left ventricular long-axis excursion and timing - significance for the interpretation of s'  and e'
CONCLUSION: Dobutamine increases s' due to effects on both systolic excursion and duration and it increases e' due to the associated increases in systolic and early diastolic excursion. A lack of effect on diastolic times does not support the presence of a lusitropic effect of dobutamine.PMID:37128633 | DOI:10.1080/14017431.2023.2205070 (Source: Scandinavian Cardiovascular Journal)

Increased plasma levels of non-sugar sweeteners in patients with symptomatic carotid atherosclerosis
Scand Cardiovasc J. 2023 Dec;57(1):2205068. doi: 10.1080/14017431.2023.2205068.ABSTRACTPurpose. The non-sugar sweeteners acesulfame K and saccharin are considered safe, but there is conflicting evidence on their effects on cardiovascular health. Materials and methods. In this explorative pilot study, we measured plasma levels of acesulfame K and saccharin in 15 patients with symptomatic carotid atherosclerosis, 18 asymptomatic patients and 15 control subjects. Fecal microbiota and short-chain fatty acids were analyzed. Dietary and medical history was assessed. Results. Symptomatic patients had higher levels of acesulfame K...
