A Narrative Literature Review Comparing the Key Features of Musculoskeletal Involvement in Rheumatoid Arthritis and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
The objective of this narrative literature review is to compare the immunopathogenesis, structural features, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSUS) studies and management of joint manifestations in RA and SLE. We highlight the key similarities and differences between the two diseases. Overall, the literature evaluated indicates that synovitis and radiographical progression are the key features in RA, while inflammation without swelling, tendinitis and tenosynovitis are more prominent features in SLE. In addition, the importance of defining patients with RA by the presence or absence of autoa...

Diabetes-Related Complications and Costs in Medicare Beneficiaries with Comorbid Rheumatoid Arthritis and Diabetes Treated with Abatacept Versus Other Targeted DMARDs
ConclusionsMedicare beneficiaries with RA and T2DM who switch to/initiate abatacept as their first tDMARD have directionally lower rates and costs of T2DM-related complications compared with patients switching to/initiating other tDMARDs. Abatacept treatment may help reduce clinical and economic burdens associated with T2DM in patients with RA. (Source: Rheumatology and Therapy)

COVID-19 Outcomes and Vaccination in Patients with Spondyloarthritis
AbstractThe rapid transmission of the highly infectious severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), which causes coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), led to widespread infection throughout the world. Concerns and challenges regarding COVID-19 illness have emerged for patients with immune-mediated inflammatory diseases, such as spondyloarthritis (SpA), who receive treatment with biologic or targeted synthetic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs), because this population is vulnerable to infections and has a high prevalence of risk factors associated with severe COVID-19 illness. Available data on...

Real-World Effectiveness of Belimumab in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: A Systematic Literature Review
ConclusionsIn the real-world setting, observed outcomes with belimumab for the treatment of SLE are consistent with those reported from randomized clinical trials. Improvements persist long-term for SLEDAI activity and prednisone-equivalent use with belimumab. (Source: Rheumatology and Therapy)

Association between TNFi anti-drug antibodies, smoking, and disease activity in patients with inflammatory arthritis: Results from a Norwegian cross-sectional observational study
ConclusionsnADAb-positive patients were more frequently smokers and had significantly worse disease activity, physical function, and inflammatory markers, than patients without nADAb. The association between smoking and nADAb positivity warrants further examination. (Source: Rheumatology and Therapy)

Exploring the Association Between History of Psoriasis (PSO) and Disease Activity in Patients with Psoriatic Arthritis (PsA)
ConclusionsOur study demonstrates that currently existing cutaneous lesions in patients themselves are correlated with disease activity and severity of axial joint damage, whereas family history does not have an evident impact on the disease activity of PsA. (Source: Rheumatology and Therapy)

Associations of Healthcare Utilization and Costs with Increasing Pain and Treatment Intensity Levels in Osteoarthritis Patients: An 18-Year Retrospective Study
ConclusionsPain and treatment intensity were both strongly associated with OA-related utilization but not consistently with all-cause utilization. Our results provide promising evidence of better criteria and approaches for predicting disease burden and costs in the future. (Source: Rheumatology and Therapy)

A Review of the Clinical Effectiveness and Safety of Hybrid Cooperative Complexes in Intra-articular Viscosupplementation
AbstractViscosupplementation by intra-articular (i.a.) injection of the non-sulfated glycosaminoglycan (GAG) hyaluronic acid (HA) is a conservative therapy widely accepted in clinical practice for the management of osteoarthritis (OA) and joint diseases. The aim of viscosupplementation is to restore the rheological properties of the synovial fluid to relieve joint inflammation and pain and improve joint function through a chondroprotective effect. However, there is a range of hyaluronic acid products for OA that differ in preparation, molecular weight, rheological characteristics and concentration, and different i.a. formu...

Real-World Effectiveness and Treatment Retention of Secukinumab in Patients with Psoriatic Arthritis and Axial Spondyloarthritis: A Descriptive Observational Analysis of the Spanish BIOBADASER Registry
AbstractRheumatic diseases are extensively managed with biological disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (bDMARDs), but a notable proportion of patients withdraw in the long term because of lack of effectiveness, adverse events, or the patient ’s decision. The present real-world analysis showed the effectiveness, retention, and safety data collected in the Spanish BIOBADASER registry for patients with psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA, including ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and non-radiographic axSpA) treated w ith secukinumab, a human antibody against interleukin-17A (IL-17A), for more than 12 ...
