Solitary fibrous tumor of the pleura with air cystic component
We present an uncommon case of a solitary fibrous tumor of the pleura with the appearance of an air-containing cystic mass. We discuss the differential diagnosis through the imaging findings, the hypothetical origins of the air component, and the possible relationship between the air component and the aggressivity of the tumor.PMID:38642962 | DOI:10.1016/j.rxeng.2022.03.008 (Source: Radiologia)

Is the use of gonad protection protectors necessary during infants chest radiography?
CONCLUSIONS: No significant difference was observed in gonad dose measurements with and without the gonad protector during infants chest radiography. We believe that gonadal protector wearing is not necessary.PMID:38614527 | DOI:10.1016/j.rxeng.2022.08.003 (Source: Radiologia)

Prognostic value of brain perfusion by MRI in the initial study of high grade gliomas
CONCLUSIONS: It has become evident that the tumour perfusion via MRI scan has a prognostic value in the initial analysis of HGG. The average survival period of patients with rCBV less than or equal to 3.0 is significantly higher than those patients whose values are higher, which allows to be more precise with the prognosis of each patient.PMID:38614528 | DOI:10.1016/j.rxeng.2022.12.010 (Source: Radiologia)

Women in Radiology: A perspective from Spain
CONCLUSIONS: Although gender inequality is declining, in radiology women continue to be underrepresented in leadership positions. Multiple and hereditary renal tumors: a review for radiologists
Radiologia (Engl Ed). 2024 Mar-Apr;66(2):132-154. doi: 10.1016/j.rxeng.2024.03.001. Epub 2024 Mar 23.ABSTRACT80% of renal carcinomas (RC) are diagnosed incidentally by imaging. 2-4% of "sporadic" multifocality and 5-8% of hereditary syndromes are accepted, probably with underestimation. Multifocality, young age, familiar history, syndromic data, and certain histologies lead to suspicion of hereditary syndrome. Each tumor must be studied individually, with a multidisciplinary evaluation of the patient. Nephron-sparing therapeutic strategies and a radioprotective diagnostic approach are recommended. Relevant data for the rad...

Checklist: Neck computed tomography in non-traumatic emergencies
Radiologia (Engl Ed). 2024 Mar-Apr;66(2):155-165. doi: 10.1016/j.rxeng.2023.05.007. Epub 2024 Mar 16.ABSTRACTPatients attending the emergency department (ED) with cervical inflammatory/infectious symptoms or presenting masses that may involve the aerodigestive tract or vascular structures require a contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) scan of the neck. Its radiological interpretation is hampered by the anatomical complexity and pathophysiological interrelationship between the different component systems in a relatively small area. Recent studies propose a systematic evaluation of the cervical structures, using a 7-it...

Challenges in radiological evaluation of brain metastases, beyond progression
Radiologia (Engl Ed). 2024 Mar-Apr;66(2):166-180. doi: 10.1016/j.rxeng.2024.03.003. Epub 2024 Mar 25.ABSTRACTMRI is the cornerstone in the evaluation of brain metastases. The clinical challenges lie in discriminating metastases from mimickers such as infections or primary tumors and in evaluating the response to treatment. The latter sometimes leads to growth, which must be framed as pseudo-progression or radionecrosis, both inflammatory phenomena attributable to treatment, or be considered as recurrence. To meet these needs, imaging techniques are the subject of constant research. However, an exponential growth after radi...

Paediatric interventional radiology: it's not child's play

The new training pathways in interventional radiology, the maintenance of skills with a small volume of cases or complex procedures, the limited availability of specific pediatric equipment and materials pose significant challenges and opportunities.PMID:38614533 | DOI:10.1016/j.rxeng.2023.06.006 (Source: Radiologia)
