Exposure and Response Prevention for Children and Adolescents with Tourette Syndrome Delivered via Web-Based Videoconference versus Face-to-Face Method
Neuropediatrics DOI: 10.1055/a-1987-3205Chronic tic disorders, such as Tourette syndrome, are characterized by motor and vocal tics. Tics present a considerable burden for some patients, and therefore, effective treatment is important. One evidence-based treatment option is a behavioral therapy called exposure and response prevention (ERP). Despite its effectiveness, access to ERP remains limited due to a lack of treatment sites. Web-based videoconferences can connect patients at home with a therapist located in the hospital, allowing for treatment delivery over a wide geographic area. The primary aim of this study was to ...

Elective and Emergency Deep Brain Stimulation in Refractory Pediatric Monogenetic Movement Disorders Presenting with Dystonia: Current Practice illustrated by Two Cases
Conclusion DBS can be effective in monogenetic pediatric dystonia and should be considered early in the disease course. To better evaluate the effects of DBS on patients' functioning, patient-centered therapeutic goals should be discussed in a multidisciplinary approach. Claude Syndrome in Childhood Associated with Probable Neuro-Behcet Disease
We present two children with Claude syndrome at 9 and 15 years of age. The typical clinical picture was consistent with brain magnetic resonance imaging findings. A thorough investigation regarding the underlying etiology revealed no definite diagnosis but clues suggestive of probable neuro-Behcet disease. Awareness of pediatric neurologists on arterial ischemic stroke has been increasing over the past decades, enabling timely diagnosis and appropriate management of rare childhood cases with midbrain stroke. Acute Corticosteroid Responsive Meningoencephalitis with Cerebral Vasculitis after COVID-19 Infection in a Thirteen-Year-Old Case Report
Conclusion A teenager without previous medical history presented with acute encephalitis with leptomeningitis and vasculitis after a recent COVID-19 infection. Steroids pulse therapy allowed clinical improvement. Cerebral MRI and EEG helped diagnosis, follow-up of the encephalitis, and evolution after treatment. Supratentorial Demyelinating Lesions Following Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 Infection: A Pediatric Case Report
Conclusions Our case contributes to broaden the knowledge regarding the spectrum of possible complications of SARS-CoV-2 infection. The relative lack of clinical manifestations in our patient can be seen as a warning not to underestimate even mild neurological symptoms correlated with COVID-19. Expanding the Phenotypic Spectrum of Alazami Syndrome: Two Unrelated Spanish Families
Neuropediatrics DOI: 10.1055/a-1947-8411Alazami syndrome is a rare disorder with an autosomal recessive inheritance caused by pathogenic biallelic variants in the LARP7 gene. Clinically, it is mainly characterized by short stature, intellectual disability, and dysmorphic facial features. However, the phenotype is not yet well-defined because less than 50 cases have been described to date. Here, we report three new patients from two unrelated Spanish families who, in addition to the defined features of Alazami syndrome, also exhibit unique features that broaden the phenotypic spectrum of the syndrome. Moreover, we describe ...

Clinical and Electrophysiological Features Predicting Response to Antiseizure Medications in Juvenile Absence Epilepsy
Conclusion Our study shows that concomitant GTCS may predict poorer response to ASMs in JAE. Younger age at diagnosis and OIRDA on EEG may be associated with better response to treatment. Early and Aggressive Treatment May Modify Anti-Hu Associated Encephalitis Prognosis
Neuropediatrics DOI: 10.1055/a-1896-6687Anti-Hu encephalitis is a paraneoplastic syndrome in adults. In children, rare cases of anti-Hu encephalitis were reported mostly without underlying tumors and clinical outcome are usually severe. Here, we describe a 4-year-old girl who developed cerebellar syndrome with abnormal behavior. The brain magnetic resonance imaging showed several T2/fluid-attenuated inversion recovery bilateral brain lesions and autoimmune assessment showed positive anti-Hu antibodies. Computed tomography scan revealed ganglioneuroblastoma which was surgically removed 3 months after onset. Aggressive immun...

Autoimmune Encephalitis with Autoantibodies to NMDAR1 following Herpes Encephalitis in Children and Adolescents
Neuropediatrics DOI: 10.1055/s-0042-1757706Herpes simplex virus (HSV) type 1 is a frequent pathogen causing infectious encephalitis (HSVE). Early treatment with intravenous acyclovir has led to a significant decrease in mortality. However, especially in children, deterioration during or after HSVE may occur without any evidence of HSV reactivation or improvement following repeated antiviral therapy. Here, we report 15 patients (age range 3 months to 15 years) who suffered from autoimmune encephalitis with autoantibodies to NMDAR1 following Herpes encephalitis, presenting with movement abnormalities (young children) or neur...
