Glomerular hyperfiltration in patients with severe trauma
CONCLUSIONS: GHF are a common condition in critically ill patients admitted for severe trauma. We recommend the use of CrCl to assess renal function and make dosage adjustments. Studies are required to understand the clinical impact of these phenomena on drug elimination and to be able to establish the ideal dosage in those cases.PMID:38185578 | DOI:10.1016/j.nefroe.2023.12.005 (Source: Nefrologia : publicacion oficial de la Sociedad Espanola Nefrologia)

Hemodiafiltration with endogenous reinfusion of the regenerated ultrafiltrate (HFR): towards a convective, diffusive, and adsorptive dialysis
Nefrologia (Engl Ed). 2024 Jan 3:S2013-2514(23)00179-7. doi: 10.1016/j.nefroe.2023.12.003. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHemodiafiltration with endogenous reinfusion of the ultrafiltrate (HFR) is a dialysis technique characterized by a resin cartridge with adsorptive properties that combines the mechanisms of diffusion, convection, and adsorption in a single therapeutic regimen. After nearly 20 years of clinical experience with HFR, this article reviews the accumulated evidence with this technique, considering whether adsorption reduction, as a third purification mechanism, should be the next step in the treatment of hemod...

Consensus document on the management of hyperkalemia
Nefrologia (Engl Ed). 2024 Jan 1:S2013-2514(23)00178-5. doi: 10.1016/j.nefroe.2023.12.002. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHyperkalaemia is a common electrolyte imbalance with potentially serious short-, medium- and long-term consequences on morbidity and mortality rates and the use of national health service resources. The fact that different medical specialities can manage hyperkalaemia makes it important to have a unified approach, and the recent availability of new specific drug treatments means that the approach needs to be updated. This consensus document from the scientific societies most directly involved in the mana...

Adverse renal effects of check-point inhibitors (ICI) in cancer patients: Recommendations of the Onco-nephrology Working Group of the Spanish Society of Nephrology
Nefrologia (Engl Ed). 2023 Sep-Oct;43(5):622-635. doi: 10.1016/j.nefroe.2023.11.001. Epub 2023 Nov 23.ABSTRACTThe most widely used approach in the immunotherapy treatment of cancer is the administration of monoclonal antibodies directed against regulatory molecules of immune control that inhibit the activation of T cells, the so-called check point inhibitors (ICI). ICI nephrotoxicity epidemiology and pathology; its diagnosis with or without kidney biopsy; the type and duration of treatment; the possibility of rechallenging after kidney damage; and its indication in patients with cancer and renal transplantation are certain...
