Effects of Patient-Provider Interactions on Diagnosis and Care for Women With Chronic Pelvic Pain: A Qualitative Study
Conclusion: Results of the current analysis demonstrated certain components of PPIs adversely affected health care experiences for women with CPP by contributing to the emotional burden of living with CPP, interfering with communication and trust between patients and providers, and impeding proper diagnosis and treatment for these patients. Intrauterine Devices, Pelvic Pain, and Physical Therapy: A Case Report
Discussion: A PT program designed to improve pelvic girdle alignment, improve breathing patterns, and decrease pelvic floor muscle hypertonicity may have contributed to a decrease in dyspareunia and an improved tolerance for tampon use within a 3-month time frame. PT is a conservative treatment option for musculoskeletal dysfunction. Further data collection is needed to determine the effect of PT for PFMD in patients with a history of IUD use. Informed Consent: This case report is exempt from institutional board review and approval. (Source: Journal of Womens Health Physical Therapy)

The Rehabilitation of Individuals With Gastrointestinal Issues Beyond Pelvic Floor Muscle Function: Considering a Larger Picture for Best Practice
Pelvic health physical therapy's primary role in gastroenterology-related care has been primarily viewed as biofeedback therapy of the pelvic floor muscles in the medical literature; however, emerging research suggests that expanding this role toward a whole-body approach may be optimal. Common gastroenterology-related referrals to pelvic health physical therapy include chronic constipation, fecal incontinence, levator ani syndrome, and mixed presentations of those mentioned previously. Many of these common referral diagnoses fall under the umbrella of disorders of gut-brain interaction (DGBIs) and have associated impairme...

Physical Therapy Management of Functional Constipation in Adults: A 2021 Evidence-Based Clinical Practice Guideline From the American Physical Therapy Association's Academy of Pelvic Health Physical Therapy
Conclusions: Our findings suggest that physical therapists can confidently include biofeedback interventions into the plan of care for adults with functional constipation, as they are supported by strong evidence. Manual therapy also provided a degree of evidence suitable to recommend its use. (Source: Journal of Womens Health Physical Therapy)

Certain Voicing Tasks Improve Balance in Postpartum Women Compared With Nulliparous Women
Conclusion: Postpartum women showed improved balance during the “counting” task, which incorporates the glottis into the balance mechanism. Tasks that did not incorporate the glottis (exhalation) and relied more on the abdominal wall/pelvic floor produced worse balance in postpartum women. For recently postpartum women, counting may be a helpful strategy to improve balance and reduce fall risk. (Source: Journal of Womens Health Physical Therapy)

Multifaceted Physical Therapy Approach in Male Adolescent With Coccydynia: A Case Report
Discussion: A multifaceted physical therapy treatment approach was utilized, including a combination of therapeutic exercise and manual therapies. Myofascial trigger points were difficult to address due to patient sensitivity with myofascial techniques; instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization and cupping were effective in treatment of trigger points. Physical therapy was effective in resolving this case of coccydynia. (Source: Journal of Womens Health Physical Therapy)

Running During Pregnancy and Postpartum, Part B: How Does Running-Related Advice and Guidance Received During Pregnancy and Postpartum Affect Women's Running Habits?
Background: Women are unsure about the suitability and safety of running when pregnant and postpartum, with advice from medical professionals often conflicting. Aim: To explore the exercise and running-related advice pregnant and postpartum women received and the impact it has on their running habits. Study Design: Observational, cross-sectional. Methods: A total of 883 postpartum women completed an online survey. Questions were developed using pregnancy exercise guidance and clinical postpartum running guidelines. Odds ratios (ORs) were used to assess associations between receiving prenatal advice...

Running During Pregnancy and Postpartum, Part A: Why Do Women Stop Running During Pregnancy and Not Return to Running in the Postpartum Period?
Conclusion: There is a need for evidence-based guidance for women to return to running postpartum gradually and safely. This includes greater pelvic health education and support, including access to treatment. Importantly, return-to-running guidance postpartum needs to be considered as an ongoing and longitudinal process. (Source: Journal of Womens Health Physical Therapy)
