Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Quality of Life in Women With Fecal Incontinence
Conclusions: Irritable bowel syndrome negatively affects QOL and affects one third of women with FI presenting for care in tertiary centers. Abstract: This document focuses on the management of complications related to mesh used to correct stress urinary incontinence or pelvic organ prolapse. Iatrogenic Bladder Diverticulum 11 Years After Sacrospinous Ligament Fixation for Apical Prolapse
Conclusions: Iatrogenic injuries can present distant from initial surgery. Permanent foreign material, including suture, may increase the risk of complications. Resolution of Rectal Prolapse by Vaginal Reconstruction
Conclusions: Usually, the choice of surgical approach is tailored to each individual based on anatomy, age, comorbidity, and patient factors. Correcting both vaginal and rectal prolapse at the same time with a minimally invasive approach is an advantage to the patient. Restoring the apical, anterior, and posterior vaginal wall anatomy and an enterocele repair through the vaginal route caused resolution of the rectal prolapse. A Case of Simultaneous Benign Metastasizing Leiomyomas and Disseminated Peritoneal Leiomyomatosis Following Endoscopic Power Morcellation for Uterine Disease
We present a case of simultaneous metastatic leiomyomatosis to the lungs and peritoneal cavity following laparoscopic myomectomy with power morcellation. The patient presented to our institution for further management where she underwent a robotically assisted hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. Leiomyomatous implants measuring up to 2.4 cm were resected from bowel mesentery and bladder peritoneum. Transcriptional Regulation of Connective Tissue Metabolism Genes in Women With Pelvic Organ Prolapse
Conclusions: Bone morphogenetic protein 1 expression may play a significant role in the pathophysiology of POP. The finding that BMP1 expression was correlated with COL1 expression in all groups suggests a conserved association between BMP1 and collagen synthesis in the vaginal wall. The elevated slope between COL1 and COL3 expressions may be associated with early (premenopausal) development of POP. The expression of RXFP1 in postmenopausal women and its altered intergene regulation suggests a role for RXFP1 in connective tissue metabolism outside pregnancy. Titanium Surgical Tacks: Are They Safe? Do They Work?
Conclusions: Surgical tacks are a safe alternative to suture for the attachment of mesh to the anterior longitudinal ligament in laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy. Although we saw no advantage to using tacks over suture, tacking the mesh to the anterior longitudinal ligament may make the laparoscopic approach more accessible to a wider range of gynecologic surgeons.
