A rare case of necrotizing fasciitis of the leg in an intravenous drug user caused by < em > Prevotella denticola < /em >
CONCLUSIONS: In IDUs the risk of deep skin and soft tissue infections is high and may be aggravated by contamination with oral microorganisms. The choice of empirical antibiotic treatment should include agents active against oral cavity anaerobes, such as P. denticola.PMID:38562513 | PMC:PMC10984238 | DOI:10.1080/20002297.2024.2334545 (Source: Journal of Oral Microbiology)

Role of ferroptosis in < em > Porphyromonas gingivalis- < /em > induced impairment of epithelial junction
CONCLUSIONS: Our study demonstrated that P. gingivalis weakened the oral epithelial barrier by causing ferroptosis via inhibiting SLC7A11/GSH/GPX4 axis.PMID:38562512 | PMC:PMC10984227 | DOI:10.1080/20002297.2024.2334578 (Source: Journal of Oral Microbiology)

< em > P. gingivalis < /em > alters lung microbiota and aggravates disease severity of COPD rats by up-regulating Hsp90 α/MLKL
CONCLUSION: These results indicate that P. gingivalis could emigrate into the lungs, alter lung microbiota and lead to aggravation of COPD, which Hsp90α/MLKL might participate in.PMID:38550659 | PMC:PMC10977012 | DOI:10.1080/20002297.2024.2334588 (Source: Journal of Oral Microbiology)

The antimicrobial effect of different vitamin D compounds on < em > Streptococcus mutans < /em > and their impact on glycosyltransferase expression
CONCLUSION: Vitamin D2 and D3 inhibited S. mutans mediated pH drop in sucrose supplemented cultures and altered glycosyltransferase expression, suggesting potential therapeutic roles in dental caries prevention. Further research is needed to assess their full impact on S. mutans survival under environmental stresses.PMID:38550660 | PMC:PMC10976999 | DOI:10.1080/20002297.2024.2327758 (Source: Journal of Oral Microbiology)
