Is There a Relationship between Optic Nerve and Chiasm Measurements with HbA1c Levels in Diabetic Patients?
Conclusion A significant correlation of OC width and HbA1c levels suggests that uncontrolled DM causes ON atrophy. Our study represents a thorough assessment of OC measures using standard brain MRI to evaluate optic degeneration in DM patients and shows that the OC width measurement is suitable and reliable. This simple method can be obtained from clinically available scans. Assessment of Four Serum Biochemical Markers in Elderly Patients with Vascular Dementia after Cerebral Infarction and Their Response to Donepezil and Idebenone
Conclusion The results of our study showed abnormally expressed serum levels of Hcy, IFN-γ, BDNF, and NO in elderly patients with VD after cerebral infarction which might strongly reflect the severity of VD. Moreover, after intervention of donepezil alone or combined with idebenone, the changes of serum levels of Hcy, IFN-γ, BDNF, and NO may reflect the curative effect of the disease. Assessing Quality of Life among Radiation-Induced Hypopituitary Patients
Conclusion This data demonstrates that hypopituitarism is an independent predictor of lower QoL. Early detection and appropriate treatment are essential to avoid the negative impact of hypopituitarism on QoL. Generating Operative Workflows for Vestibular Schwannoma Resection: A Two-Stage Delphi's Consensus in Collaboration with the British Skull Base Society. Part 1: The Retrosigmoid Approach
Conclusion We present Part 1 of a national, multicenter, consensus-derived, codified operative workflow for the retrosigmoid approach to vestibular schwannomas that encompasses phases, steps, instruments, technique errors, and event errors. The codified retrosigmoid approach presented in this manuscript can serve as foundational research for future work, such as operative workflow analysis or neurosurgical simulation and education. Health Care Disparities in Transsphenoidal Surgery for Pituitary Tumors: An Experience from Neighboring Urban Public and Private Hospitals
Conclusion Significant socioeconomic differences exist among patients undergoing pituitary surgery at our institution's hospitals. Public hospital patients more often required emergency surgery, developed diabetes insipidus, and underwent subtotal tumor resection. Identifying these differences is an imperative initial step in improving the care of our patients. The Value of Intraoperative Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Endoscopic Endonasal Resection of Pituitary Adenoma
Conclusion At our institution, we report a significant absolute increase in GTR rates of 16.4% for patients undergoing an iMRI. Among iMRI patients who did not have GTR, the majority of residuals were intentionally left behind after being deemed too risky to pursue. Overall, this study suggests the high value that iMRI adds to endoscopic pituitary adenoma surgery.
