Development of methods based on low-temperature partitioning (LTP) for monitoring cresols and chlorophenols in sewage sludge, soil, and water in column leaching
J Environ Sci Health B. 2023 Jul 19:1-9. doi: 10.1080/03601234.2023.2236915. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCresols and chlorophenols are chemical contaminants that are potentially toxic to humans and can be found in sewage sludge. These chemical contaminants can migrate into the sludge-soil-water system when sludge is used as a conditioner for agricultural soils. Thus, the objective of this study was to develop methodologies based on extraction with low-temperature partitioning (LTP) to determine cresols and chlorophenols in sewage sludge, soil, and water. The analysis was performed by gas chromatography coupled with mass ...

Contamination of selected heavy metals in < em > Limnothrissa miodon < /em > (Boulenger, 1906) in the four strata of Lake Kariba Zambia: are the consumers at risk?
J Environ Sci Health B. 2023 Jul 17:1-9. doi: 10.1080/03601234.2023.2235262. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPollution of aquatic ecosystems is one of the major challenges affecting many countries of the world. Heavy metal pollutants, in particular, threaten the life of aquatic organisms (fauna and flora) and, more importantly, humans who consume aquatic products as a critical source of proteins. In the present study, the concentrations of selected heavy metals (cobalt- Co, Chromium-Cr, nickel- Ni and manganese- Mn) in Limnothrissa miodon, locally known as 'Kapenta' were assessed using the Microwave Plasma Atomic Emission Sp...

Determination of tolfenpyrad residues in green tea by GC-MS/MS based on acetonitrile extractant, dispersion solid phase extraction purification
J Environ Sci Health B. 2023 Jul 17:1-6. doi: 10.1080/03601234.2023.2235249. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGreen tea is one of people's favorite drinks. However, pesticide residues in green tea can cause harm to the human body, and therefore, detection of pesticide residues in green tea is very important. In recent years, the detection of pesticide residues in tea has become a research hotspot. In this paper, a gas chromatography-mass spectrometry/mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS) detection method of tolfenpyrad pesticide residues in green tea was established by using acetonitrile extractant, dispersive solid-phase extraction p...

Selectivity and control of < em > Euphorbia heterophylla < /em > in sugarcane by herbicide in post-emergence
J Environ Sci Health B. 2023;58(6):506-513. doi: 10.1080/03601234.2023.2235248. Epub 2023 Jul 14.ABSTRACTTo obtain good control of wild poinsettia (Euphorbia heterophylla) in post-emergence in sugarcane crop, we evaluate the herbicides association on post-emergence of E. heterophylla and the ratoon cane selectivity. The experimental scheme was in randomized blocks with 6 treatments and 4 replications. The treatments were: control; ametryn + mesotrione + sulfentrazone (1,500 + 144 + 800 g i.a ha-1); ametryn + mesotrione + diclosulan (1,500 + 144 + 200 g i.a ha-1); ametryn + mesotrione (2,500 + 144 g i.a ha-1: Highest dose);...

< em > Egeria densa < /em > remediates the aquatic environment and reduces < sup > 14 < /sup > C-deltamethrin bioaccumulation in < em > Danio rerio < /em >
J Environ Sci Health B. 2023 Jul 10:1-6. doi: 10.1080/03601234.2023.2232277. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDeltamethrin is an insecticide with high toxicity to non-target aquatic organisms. Environment-friendly alternatives to removing insecticides from water bodies, like phytoremediation, require species to uptake and/or dissipate pesticides from water. Our research investigated the ability of Egeria densa plants to absorb and dissipate 14C-deltamethrin from water, and bioaccumulation in Danio rerio. The variables were four densities of E. densa (0, 234, 337, and 468 g dry weight m-3), in tanks with seven adults of D. rer...

In-feed emamectin benzoate abuse affects the biological responses and erythrocytes of Nile tilapia < em > Oreochromis niloticus < /em >
This study aimed at elucidating the pernicious effects of in-feed antiparasitic drug emamectin benzoate (EB) abuse on the haemato-biochemistry and erythro-morphometry of healthy Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus. The fish were fed EB at 50 μg (1×) and 150 μg/kg biomass/d (3×) for 14 d as against the recommended 7 d and periodically assessed the blood parameters. A significant dose- and time-dependent reduction in feed intake, survival, total erythrocytes (TEC), monocytes (MC), hemoglobin (Hb), hematocrit (Ht) and mean corpuscular Hb concentration were noted. The total leukocytes (TLC), thrombocytes (TC), lymphocytes (...
