Athletic Trainer's Beliefs Regarding Professionalism
CONCLUSION: Current views of professionalism within athletic training are shaped from various lived experiences. With the movement towards athletic training becoming more diverse, equitable, and inclusive, antiquated professionalism ideals need to shift for a better work environment for all.PMID:38446641 | DOI:10.4085/1062-6050-0371.23 (Source: Journal of Athletic Training)

Psychological responses during latter rehabilitation and return to sport following ACL reconstruction surgery
CONCLUSIONS: Results suggest re-injury anxiety and perceived limitations to ability are psychological constructs on which returners and non-returners differ and therefore may be points of intervention to increase the likelihood of return to sport.PMID:38446462 | DOI:10.4085/1062-6050-0058.23 (Source: Journal of Athletic Training)

Applying the NIMHD Research Framework to Social Determinants of Health in the Context of Sport-Related Concussion: A Clinical Commentary
J Athl Train. 2024 Mar 6. doi: 10.4085/1062-6050-0370.23. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSport-related concussion (SRC) is a prevalent injury. There are significant disparities in SRC outcomes across racial and ethnic groups. These disparities may be attributed to the unequal distribution of political power (or influence) and resource allocation in various communities shaping individuals' social determinants of health (SDoH). However, the influence of SDoH on SRC outcomes remains understudied. In this clinical commentary we use the National Institute of Minority Health and Health Disparities Research Framework and describe ...

Limited total arc range of motion increases sheer stress in the shoulder while pitching in collegiate baseball pitchers
CONCLUSION: Pitchers with decreased total arc glenohumeral ROM (<160° total arc) may undergo over-stretching toward ER in the shoulder during the late cocking phase. Pitchers with higher total arc ROM can pitch the same or faster ball without increasing loading in the upper extremity. Total arc glenohumeral ROM measurement can be a clinical screening tool to monitor shoulder condition over the time, and pitchers with limited total arc ROM might be at higher risk of shoulder injury.PMID:38446629 | DOI:10.4085/1062-6050-0565.23 (Source: Journal of Athletic Training)

Cognitive-Motor Dual-Task Performance of the Landing Error Scoring System
CONCLUSIONS: The LESS was able to detect a dual-task cost in landing errors during both the Visual and Number conditions. We recommend developing clinically-oriented solutions to incorporate similar dual- task paradigms in traditional injury risk reduction programs.PMID:38446631 | DOI:10.4085/1062-6050-0558.23 (Source: Journal of Athletic Training)

Influence of anterior talofibular ligament injury and mechanical ankle anterior displacement on symptoms in individuals with chronic ankle instability
CONCLUSION: Observation of an abnormal anterior talofibular ligament on ultrasonography is associated with anterior displacement of the ankle joint. However, it is assumed that the influence of anterior ankle displacement due to damage to the anterior talofibular ligament on the pain and perceived instability in chronic ankle instability is small.PMID:38446632 | DOI:10.4085/1062-6050-0582.23 (Source: Journal of Athletic Training)

Psychosocial factors associated with lower extremity re-injury risk in soccer players: Contribution of self- confidence, functional attention, and re-injury anxiety
CONCLUSIONS: Increased re-injury anxiety and decreased self-confidence are associated with higher odds of lower extremity re-injury in male soccer players. To reduce the risk of re-injury, athletic trainers and sport psychologists should take these psychological factors into account when evaluating the psychological readiness of soccer players with a history of lower extremity injury to RTS.PMID:38446640 | DOI:10.4085/1062-6050-0434.23 (Source: Journal of Athletic Training)
