The Verran Professional Governance Scale: Confirmatory and Exploratory Analysis
This article describes psychometric testing and refinement of the Verran Professional Governance Scale (VPGS), which measures behaviors associated with professional governance. Phase 1 reduced the items on the scale based on floor and ceiling effects and redundancy of items. Phase 2 examined structural construct validity using exploratory (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The final 22-item instrument demonstrates satisfactory internal consistencies and fit indices and significant positive correlation between the VPGS, job satisfaction, and control over nursing practice. Diversity Practices for Hiring the New Graduate Nurse
A multistep selection process was established to assist in securing top talent while achieving diversity objectives for a nurse residency program. The selection process incorporated objective scoring tools, diverse panel interviews, unconscious bias training, and standardized interview questions to decrease unconscious and implicit bias. De-escalation Training as Part of a Workplace Violence Prevention Program
Workplace violence, including verbal and physical abuse, is escalating nationwide. As healthcare workers try to enforce COVID-19 prevention policies and practices, this phenomenon is exacerbated. De-escalation training is a method to prepare nurses through increased situational awareness, leading to early recognition and improved coping and confidence in dealing with aggression.
