Continuous Glucose Monitoring Systems and the Efficacy of Acarbose Treatment in Cystic Fibrosis-related Dysglycemia
J Clin Res Pediatr Endocrinol. 2023 Sep 15. doi: 10.4274/jcrpe.galenos.2023.2023-2-12. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEarly detection of glycemic dysregulation and optimization of glycemic control at cystic fibrosis related diabetes (CFRD) is associated with improved pulmonary function and decreased mortality. The standard 2-hour oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) is the current routine screening test for CFRD. However, hyperglycemia can be detected by continuous glucose monitoring systems (CGMS) in patients with normal OGTT evaluation. High-dose acarbose is an important alternative, in the treatment of glycemic dysregulati...

Novel Variant of < em > SLC34A3 < /em > in a Compound Heterozygous Brazilian Girl with Hereditary Hypophosphatemic Rickets with Hypercalciuria
We report a Brazilian girl with HHRH who presented with knee pain and progressive genu valgum deformity that became apparent later in childhood (at age 8). Nephrocalcinosis was also identified at age 13. Next-generation sequencing (NGS) target panel directed to inherited forms of rickets detected compound heterozygous pathogenic variants in SLC34A3, including a novel missense variant c.1217G>T (p.Gly406Val). Compliance to oral phosphorus therapy was suboptimal and adjunctive chlorthalidone therapy improved hypercalciuria. Our case highlights the phenotypic variability of patients with HHRH and expands the growing list o...

Insulinoma Associated with MEN1 Syndrome: A Case of Persistent Hypoglycemia in School-aged Child
We report the case of a patient with multiple hospitalizations related to hypoglycemia and neuroglycopenia symptoms, with multiple studies demonstrating the presence of an insulinoma as part of the spectrum of MEN1 syndrome. The primary significance of our report is to underscore that insulinoma can present as the initial manifestation of MEN1 syndrome in 10% of pediatric patients. Furthermore, we describe a likely pathogenic variant in the MEN1 gene not previously reported in the literature. Our report highlights the importance of the convergence of clinical, biochemical and molecular investigations in establishing a prec...

Childhood Obesity as a Global Problem: A Cross-sectional Survey on Global Awareness and National Program Implementation
CONCLUSION: There are different practices in implementing prevention measures against childhood obesity globally, particularly in statutory regulation on food advertising and national programs. While support and awareness is relatively high, its implementation is hindered. This reflects the need for prompt country-specific evaluation and interventions.PMID:37622285 | DOI:10.4274/jcrpe.galenos.2023.2023-7-5 (Source: JCRPE Journal of Clinical Research in Pediatric Endocrinology)
