Potential Diagnostic Pitfalls in Evaluating Immunohistochemistry for Cervical Myofibroblastomas
Cervicovaginal myofibroblastoma (CVM) is a rare benign mesenchymal tumor of the lower female genital tract that shows chromosomal loss of 13q14 (RB1 gene located in this region). The aim of this study was to investigate the utility of immunohistochemistry (IHC) for desmin, CD34, and Rb in diagnosing CVM. All cervical polyps diagnosed from July 2016 to July 2017 were retrospectively reviewed. Cases showing morphologic myofibroblastic differentiation were evaluated by IHC for desmin, CD34, and Rb. Desmin and CD34 staining was recorded as positive or negative. Rb nuclear staining was graded as follows: 0 (25%–50%), 3 (>50%â...

Prognostic Significance of P16 Expression and P53 Expression in Primary Vaginal Cancer
To evaluate the correlation between p16 expression and clinical outcomes in patients with primary vaginal cancer treated with definitive radiotherapy. P16 immunohistochemical was performed on 25 patient samples and recorded from pathology reports in 7 patients. P53 immunohistochemical was performed on 3 p16-negative samples. Baseline characteristics were compared using the Fisher exact test. Outcomes were compared using log-rank tests, and cox proportional hazards models. Survival and recurrence analysis was performed with the Kaplan-Meier method and cumulative incidence estimates. P16 expression was positive in 29 patient...

Classic and “Dissecting” Gonadoblastoma in a Phenotypic Girl With a 46, XX Peripheral Karyotype and No Evidence of a Disorder of Sex Development
Herein, we report a case of a 9-yr-old girl who had a 46, XX peripheral karyotype and apparent developmentally normal ovaries. She presented with abdominal pain and a right adnexal mass. No clinical or pathologic evidence of gonadal dysgenesis or undifferentiated gonadal tissue was detected. She underwent right salpingo-oophorectomy with rupture of the tumor at the time of operation due to recent adnexal torsion. The original pathologic diagnosis was gonadoblastoma and mixed germ cell tumor. Most significantly in our study, we identified a rare and novel pathway for the development of malignant mixed germ cell tumor from g...

Ovarian Combined Brenner Tumor, Mucinous Cystadenoma and Struma Ovarii: First Report of a Rare Combination
We report an ovarian neoplasm with components of Brenner tumor, mucinous cystadenoma and struma ovarii. As far as we are aware, this combination has not been previously reported. We speculate on the possible histogenesis of this combination of elements. (Source: International Journal of Gynecological Pathology)

Ovarian Endometrioid Carcinoma Misdiagnosed as Mucinous Carcinoma: An Underrecognized Problem
Primary mucinous carcinoma of the ovary is uncommon, and while numerous studies have focused on improving our ability to distinguish these tumors from gastrointestinal metastases, recent data suggest that up to one fifth are still misdiagnosed with a previously underrecognized culprit: endometrioid carcinoma. Using an index case of an ovarian endometrioid carcinoma with mucinous differentiation masquerading as a mucinous carcinoma, we sought to identify the most efficient biomarker combination that could distinguish these 2 histotypes. Eight immunohistochemical markers were assessed on tissue microarrays from 183 endometri...
