[Shades and shadows in the application of the long-term care law].
Authors: Correa M, Jiménez-Aguilera JD Abstract The aim of this study was to provide a brief overview of the most controversial aspects of the Spanish Act of Promotion of Personal Autonomy and Long-Term Care 39/2006, which, in the last few years, has led to heated debates between the state and the autonomous regions. Because of the funding problems due to initial poor planning, the decline of contributions from the Spanish Government in the last few years, including the suppression of the agreed level, and low cash collection from the user through copayment, the autonomous regions have had to provide signifi...

[A strategy for institutionalisation of health impact assessment in Andalusia (Spain)].
Authors: Vela-Ríos J, Rodríguez-Rasero FJ, Moya-Ruano LA, Candau-Bejarano A, Ruiz-Fernández J Abstract Health impact assessment (HIA) aims to incorporate people's health and wellbeing as a key feature in policy-making. Many authors believe that HIA might be systematically integrated into all decision-making processes as a way to achieve that goal. To that end, there is need to overcome a number of challenges, including the fact that Andalusia (Spain) has made HIA compulsory by law, the need for awareness of all public sectors whose decisions might have substantial impacts on health and for a me...

[Gender inequalities in research in public health and epidemiology in Spain (2007-2014)].
CONCLUSIONS: The overrepresentation of male leaders in public health research in Spain can be understood as an indicator and a consequence of androcentrism in scientific societies and professional groups. This sexist situation threatens the existence of innovative products and services from a gender perspective that respond to the needs and demands of society as a whole. More women are needed in research incorporating this perspective. PMID: 26404162 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: Gaceta Sanitaria)

The present article presents two studies promoted by the Directorate-General for Traffic aimed at obtaining official values for the costs associated with fatal and non-fatal traffic injuries in Spain. We combined the contingent valuation approach and the (modified) standard gamble technique in two surveys administered to large representative samples (n1=2,020, n2=2,000) ...

DISCUSSION: The percentage of ambulatory surgical procedures increased by 63.2% and the percentage of inpatient surgery decreased by 23.5% (this trend was more pronounced in public hospitals).
