Design and experimental validation of a new wheelchair seat stabilization system
CONCLUSIONS: The design process presented here was successful and modelled by general equations that can be applied to most front-wheel drive wheelchairs. It presents a low-cost option for the design of seat tilting systems, which can increase their accessibility.PMID:37837314 | DOI:10.1080/17483107.2023.2270013 (Source: Disability and Rehabilitation. COOK technology to support meal preparation following a severe traumatic brain injury: a usability mixed-methods single-case study in a real-world environment
CONCLUSION: This study showed that COOK was easy to use and promising, despite technical and configuration issues. Results suggest the importance of further technological developments to improve COOK's usability and fit with the needs of people with TBI living in their own homes.PMID:37828907 | DOI:10.1080/17483107.2023.2264326 (Source: Disability and Rehabilitation. Effect of shape of back support adjustment on shear force applied to buttocks when tilt-in-space and reclining functions are combined in wheelchairs
CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that the shape of the back support adjustment function increased the shear force applied to the buttocks posteriorly when the back support was inclined backwards using both the tilt-in-space and reclining functions.IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONWhen utilizing both the tilt-in-space and reclining functions to incline the back support, the shear force applied to the buttocks is greatly affected by the shape of the back support. The shape of back support adjustment is a function that can stabilize elderly persons' sitting posture, but it may increase the external force applied to the buttock...
