Surgical treatment options for congenital/infantile corneal opacities and anterior segment dysgenesis
DISCUSSION: Whenever possible treatment of congenital and infantile corneal opacities should be limited to the affected layers/areas. Nevertheless, children and parents have to be prepared for many examinations, sometimes with the patient under anesthesia and should be well-informed about the prognosis and the risks.PMID:35378598 | DOI:10.1007/s00347-022-01612-8 (Source: Der Ophthalmologe)

Current situation of electronic medical records in ophthalmological departments in Germany
DISCUSSION: Methods of medical record keeping in German eye clinics are heterogeneous, with paper-based documentation continuing to play an important role. This, as well as the high number of different electronic medical record software pose important challenges in terms of interoperability and secondary use of clinical data.PMID:35376987 | DOI:10.1007/s00347-022-01605-7 (Source: Der Ophthalmologe)

Secondary open-angle glaucoma: pseudoexfoliative glaucoma, pigmentary glaucoma and neovascular glaucoma
This article is the first part of a review of the more common forms of secondary open-angle glaucomas. The pathogenesis, characteristic clinical findings and treatment of pseudoexfoliative glaucoma, pigmentary glaucoma and neovascular glaucoma are discussed. An emphasis is placed on the differences in treatment compared to primary open-angle glaucoma and prophylactic treatment approaches are explained where possible.PMID:35362756 | DOI:10.1007/s00347-022-01609-3 (Source: Der Ophthalmologe)

Corneal epithelial thickness in keratoconus patients compared to healthy controls
CONCLUSION: Patients with KC showed an altered epithelial thickness compared to healthy controls. The derived calculated parameters based on corneal epithelial thickness can distinguish between KC and a healthy cornea.PMID:35362757 | DOI:10.1007/s00347-022-01606-6 (Source: Der Ophthalmologe)

Phototherapeutic keratectomy for epithelial basement membrane dystrophy : Impact of excimer laser systems used on the changes of visual acuity, refraction and astigmatism
CONCLUSION: The PTK can be recommended as an effective treatment method for patients with EBMD, regardless of the laser systems used. Patients benefit from long relief from recurrences with improved or constant visual acuity and stable refraction.PMID:35320402 | DOI:10.1007/s00347-022-01610-w (Source: Der Ophthalmologe)
