The Legacy and Impact of Podiatric Fellowship Training
Advanced fellowship training is well recognized in allopathic/osteopathic medicine and surgery programs where trainees hone expertise and skills to further expand and focus on their chosen specialty. This is when general surgeons concentrate to become specialists, such as vascular surgeons, general orthopedists focusing on spine surgery, and likewise, broad medical disciplines, such as an internist becoming a rheumatologist. When I first graduated from residency training in 1993, my residency partner was fortunate to do an AO fellowship with Dr Ted Hansen. The surgical fellowships at that time were mainly linked to the AO organization, and many of them existed outside the United States. They varied from 6  weeks to 6 months. Implantable Neuromodulation Device in the Lower Limb
Implantable peripheral nerve stimulators are used with the goal to decrease the neuropathic pain level and possibly the need for opioid analgesics. Peripheral nerve injuries and pathology must be thoroughly evaluated before implantation of neuromodulation devices. Ultrasound-guided nerve blocks and a peripheral nerve stimulator trial is performed before surgical implantation. In this article, the authors discuss indications, clinical and diagnostic examinations, and their surgical technique for implantation of the Bioventus StimRouter. Pediatric Trauma
Musculoskeletal injuries of the lower limb are frequent in pediatric patients and represent the most common cause of emergency department admissions. Acute sports-related injuries commonly involve the lower extremity, as the knee and ankle are the most frequently injured parts. Physeal fractures are common injuries in children and adolescents participating in contact sports, which may lead to growth disturbances and cause limb length discrepancy. It is imperative for pediatric trauma centers to implement evidence-based multispecialty protocols for the perimanagement of the injured child, especially through the postdischarg...

Tarsal Coalitions
Tarsal coalitions are recognized as a congenital anomaly whereby the two or more bones of the hindfoot and midfoot are fused resulting in limitation of foot motion and pain. Tarsal coalitions were found to be the cause of painful flatfeet in adolescents and young adults. Developing a clinical understanding of tarsal coalitions as well as developing a step-wise conservative and surgical approach for their treatment can alleviate patient symptomatology and provide excellent long-term benefits. Conservative treatment consists of immobilization, NSAIDs, and casting for symptomatic patients, and surgical treatment for symptomat...
