Explaining the Urban-Rural Difference in Late-Life Depression in India: Evidence from a Multivariate Decomposition Analysis Based on Longitudinal Aging Study in India, Wave 2017-18
CONCLUSIONS: The study showed significant rural-urban difference in late-life depression, with a rural disadvantage.CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS: The findings suggest the need for identifying at-risk populations and developing a framework of targeted policy interventions for mitigating the increased risk of late-life depression among older Indians and in rural areas in particular.PMID:37700396 | DOI:10.1080/07317115.2023.2257179 (Source: Clinical Gerontologist)

< em > 'It's Too nice' < /em > : Adapting iSupport Lite for Ethnically Diverse Family Carers of a Person with Dementia
CONCLUSIONS: Beyond language translation, cultural adaptation using co-design provided participants the opportunity to develop more culturally relevant care resources that meet their needs. These resources will be evaluated for clinical and cost-effectiveness in future research.CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS: By design, multilingual resources for carers must incorporate cultural needs to communicate support messages. If this intervention is effective, it could help to reduce dementia care disparities in ethnically diverse populations in Australia and globally.PMID:37697628 | DOI:10.1080/07317115.2023.2254296 (Source: Clinical Gerontologist)

Extreme Risk Protection Orders in Older Adults in Six U.S. States: A Descriptive Study
CONCLUSIONS: Approximately 14% of ERPO petitions for older adults involved cognitive impairment; one-third of these noted suicide risk. Studies examining ERPO implementation across states may inform usage and awareness.CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS: ERPOs may reduce firearm access among older adults with cognitive impairment, suicidality, or risk of violence.PMID:37688772 | DOI:10.1080/07317115.2023.2254279 (Source: Clinical Gerontologist)

CBT for Generalized Anxiety Disorder in Parkinson's Disease: A Case Study
CONCLUSIONS: Symptoms of anxiety in an older adult with PD decreased during a course of CBT. The implications of the treatment outcome of this study and further considerations of treatment plans for comorbid PD and anxiety have been discussed.CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS: Using CBT could positively impact non-motor symptoms of Parkinson's, such as sleep difficulties and speech impediments. Using CBT for the catastrophic thinking and worry content in GAD seems to act as a complementary therapy for psychological/non-motor symptoms of PD.PMID:37668529 | DOI:10.1080/07317115.2023.2254311 (Source: Clinical Gerontologist)

Let's Talk About Firearms: Perspectives of Older Veterans and VA Clinicians on Universal and Dementia-Specific Firearm Safety Discussions
CONCLUSIONS: VA patients and clinicians are amenable to firearm safety discussions during healthcare visits and especially endorse the need for such discussions among high-risk populations.CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS: Universal firearm safety discussions could be incorporated into standard VA practice, particularly for Veterans experiencing cognitive decline or dementia, without risking Veteran disengagement from care.PMID:37665611 | DOI:10.1080/07317115.2023.2254292 (Source: Clinical Gerontologist)

Rural Community Pharmacy Approaches to Lethal Means Management for Suicide Prevention
DISCUSSION: Pharmacists endorsed LMM interventions, and most were already offering the endorsed interventions but not for LMM.CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS: The rural community pharmacists in this study believed several LMM services were highly feasible, acceptable and appropriate for use in preventing suicide.PMID:37551694 | DOI:10.1080/07317115.2023.2241447 (Source: Clinical Gerontologist)
