Reduced Reward Processing in Schizophrenia: A Comprehensive EEG Event-Related Oscillation Study
Brain Topogr. 2023 Dec 11. doi: 10.1007/s10548-023-01021-3. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIt is well known that abnormal reward processing is a characteristic feature of various psychopathologies including schizophrenia (SZ). Reduced reward anticipation has been suggested as a core symptom of SZ. The present study aims to evaluate the event-related oscillations (EROs) delta, theta, alpha, beta, and gamma in patients with SZ during the Monetary Incentive Delay (MID) task, which elicits the neural activity of reward processing. Twenty-one patients with SZ and twenty-two demographically matched healthy controls were included ...

Increased Delta and Theta Power Density in Sickle Cell Disease Individuals with Chronic Pain Secondary to Hip Osteonecrosis: A Resting-State Eeg Study
CONCLUSION: This study indicates that individuals with SCD experiencing hip osteonecrosis and chronic pain manifest a dysfunctional EEG pattern characterized by the persistence of low-frequency PSD during a resting state. This dysfunctional EEG pattern may be linked to clinical and biochemical outcomes, including depression symptoms, pain severity during movement, and serum BDNF levels.PMID:38060074 | DOI:10.1007/s10548-023-01027-x (Source: Brain Topography)

Correlation of Cognitive Reappraisal and the Microstructural Properties of the Forceps Minor: A Deductive Exploratory Diffusion Tensor Imaging Study
Brain Topogr. 2023 Dec 7. doi: 10.1007/s10548-023-01020-4. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCognitive reappraisal (CR) is a mechanism for emotion regulation, and the prefrontal cortex (PFC) plays a central role in the regulation of emotions. We tested the hypothesis of an association between CR function and microstructural properties of forceps minor (a commissural bundle within the PFC) in healthy subjects (HS). We analyzed a population of 65 young HS of a public dataset. The diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) sequence of every subject was analyzed to extract the derived shape (diameter and volume) and DTI metrics in terms of fr...

Personality Moderates Intra-Individual Variability in EEG Microstates and Spontaneous Thoughts
Brain Topogr. 2023 Dec 1. doi: 10.1007/s10548-023-01019-x. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTVariability in brain activity that persists after accounting for overt behavioral and physiological states is often considered noise and controlled as a covariate in research. However, studying intra-individual variability in brain function can provide valuable insights into the dynamic nature of the brain. To explore this, we conducted a study on 43 participants analyzing the EEG microstate dynamics and self-reported spontaneous mental activity during five-minute resting-state recordings on two separate days with a twenty days average...
