Deletion of sphingosine kinase 2 attenuates cigarette smoke-mediated chronic obstructive pulmonary disease-like symptoms by reducing lung inflammation
Bosn J Basic Med Sci. 2022 Oct 12. doi: 10.17305/bjbms.2022.8034. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCigarette smoke (CS) is the leading cause of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which is characterized by chronic bronchial inflammation and emphysema. Growing evidence supports the hypothesis that dysfunctional cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) is critically involved in the pathogenesis of CS-mediated COPD. However, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. Here, we report that supressed CFTR expression is strongly associated with abnormal phospholipid metabolism and increased pulmonary infla...

Acquired atresia of the external auditory canal and canaloplasty with Thiersch graft reconstruction: outcomes and complications
In conclusion, acquired atresia of the EAC is a troublesome disease usually associated with hearing loss. Therefore, treatment is chosen to resolve its symptoms. The results demonstrate evidence that canaloplasty with Thirsch graft may be a suitable surgical method considering the lower incidence of recurrence and the excellent hearing outcomes.PMID:36226599 | DOI:10.17305/bjbms.2022.7676 (Source: Bosnian Journal of Basic Medical Sciences)

Development and validation of radiomics machine learning model based on contrast-enhanced computed tomography to predict axillary lymph node metastasis in breast cancer
This study aimed to establish a clinical nomogram based on lymph node images to predict lymph node metastasis in breast cancer patients. A total of 193 patients with non-specific invasive breast cancer were divided into training (n = 135) and validation set (n = 58). Radiomics features were extracted from lymph node imagesinstead of tumor region, and the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator logistic algorithm was used to select the extracted features and generate radiomics scores. Then, the important clinical factors and radiomics scores were integrated into a nomogram. A receiver operating characteristic curve ...

Possible mechanism of static progressive stretching combined with extracorporeal shock wave therapy in reducing knee joint contracture in rats based on MAPK/ERK pathway
Bosn J Basic Med Sci. 2022 Oct 11. doi: 10.17305/bjbms.2022.8152. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe study aimed to observe the therapeutic effect of static progressive stretching (SPS) combined with extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) on extension knee joint contracture in rats and the effect on the MAPK/ERK pathway in the development of joint capsule fibrosis. Thirty-six Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided into blank control group, immobilization model group, natural recovery group, ESWT intervention group, SPS intervention group, and SPS combined with ESWT intervention group. The left knee joints of the rats, ...
