Validation and measurement invariance of a Korean version of the Body Appreciation Scale-2 in cisgender sexual minorities and heterosexual adults
Body Image. 2023 Sep 13;47:101625. doi: 10.1016/j.bodyim.2023.101625. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe Body Appreciation Scale-2 (BAS-2) has been validated in various languages across samples with different characteristics. However, its validation and invariance based on sexual orientation in Korean samples have yet to be examined. The current study validated the psychometric properties of the BAS-2 in Korean sexual minorities, and examined measurement invariance between sexual minority and heterosexual individuals and between sexual minority cisgender women and men. Responses from 449 sexual minority and 400 heterosexual...

Inhabiting the body: Exploring the link between embodiment and identity in community adolescents
Body Image. 2023 Sep 8;47:101623. doi: 10.1016/j.bodyim.2023.101623. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe intricate relationship between the body and identity has been highlighted in previous studies. However, a holistic approach to the body that focuses on embodiment is lacking in research examining body - identity linkages. The current study (N = 917 adolescents; 58% female; Mage = 16.17, range = 14-19 years) examined the psychometric properties of a Dutch translation of the Experience of Embodiment Scale (EES) and explored the link between embodiment and personal identity. First, confirmatory factor analysis revealed a sec...

How effective are psychosocial interventions at improving body image and reducing disordered eating in adult men? A systematic review
Body Image. 2023 Sep 6;47:101612. doi: 10.1016/j.bodyim.2023.08.004. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDisordered eating and body image concerns significantly impact a growing number of men. This systematic review assessed the evidence of the effectiveness of psychosocial interventions to improve body image and eating pathology in men. Searches were conducted in December 2022 in 13 databases (PsycINFO, MEDLINE, CINAHL Plus, AMED, PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane, EMBASE, ASSIA, British Nursing Index, Wiley and OpenGrey). Studies that quantitatively evaluated psychosocial interventions and reported pre-post body image or disordered eat...

Digital social evaluation: Relationships between receiving likes, comments, and follows on social media and adolescents' body image concerns
This study investigated the relationships between aspects of digital social evaluation and body image concerns in adolescents. Australian adolescents (N = 245, 58.4 % male, Mage = 13.79, SD = 1.11) completed online surveys measuring digital social evaluation frequency (likes, follows, positive and negative comments about appearance and non-appearance), perceived importance (likes, number of followers), body dissatisfaction, restrictive eating attitudes, and drive for muscularity. Adolescents reported frequently receiving digital social evaluation, with females receiving more positive, but not negative, comments than males....

#BodyPositive: A qualitative exploration of young people's responses to body positive social media content
Body Image. 2023 Aug 31;47:101613. doi: 10.1016/j.bodyim.2023.08.005. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBody positive social media content has been suggested to be more helpful to body image as compared to mainstream idealized images. However, body positive content is heterogeneous, and the processes underpinning the effects of body positive social media content on body image are not well understood. The aim of this study was to qualitatively examine variations in reactions to different types of body positive images among young people and their perceptions of the underlying processes. A sample of n=33 people, 67% cisgender wom...
